My Christmas present in 1985

Look what I got just 8 days before Christmas in 1985!
My youngest son Tyler!
He is 23 today.

See the Disney comforter Tyler is lying on below?
He kept this SAME comforter until he left for his mission 19 years later! I bought him other bedspreads
but he always came back to this one.He was born with determination.
You can see it on his face even as a tiny baby.

This is one of my most favorite pictures.
Shortly after Tyler was born...they were all playing detective together.
(Well okay, so 3 of them were and then I stuck Tyler in for the picture.)
Click this picture and you will be able to see baby Tyler's thick bushy hair. Loved it!!

To quote his 3rd grade teacher:
"Tyler is an outstanding student who excels in every area. He puts forth 110% of his effort whether it is in or out of the classroom."

She also wrote:
"Tyler demonstrates strong leadership ability as he is often chosen as captain of his group. His pleasant disposition and friendliness makes him very special."

His 1st grade teacher wrote:
"Tyler is one of the most pleasant people I have ever been around...I have noticed that anyone sitting by him suddenly follows his example. Everyday I notice that he does or says something polite."

Tyler has also always been a boy of detail.
He spent hours and hours making this "math game" when he was quite young.
(The answers are under each "tag"
but are glued shut from the old masking tape after all these years.)

Tyler would often leave us happy notes.
Here is one from 1994Tyler was and is close to all 3 of his brothers,
but he and McKay were inseparable growing up.

When Tyler was 4 he was so upset about McKay starting 1st grade, that he went into our bedroom and called 911. He knew what to do in an emergency...and the thought of McKay being gone all day seemed pretty urgent to him. I don't think he was prepared however when the police arrived and wanted to talk to him personally.

I can honestly say that Tyler has been a delight to raise. He has always been so determined to do what is right, that I never had to worry about his choices. He is honest, compassionate, devoted, committed, spiritual, loyal, patient...to name a few.

A never to be forgotten picture...the day Tyler left for his 2 year mission.
I think saying good bye to his little niece Elora
was one of the hardest parts. And now, in just 4 1/2 months he will be married to Karen.
We are so happy for both of them.
And their children will have beautiful teeth.
Happy Birthday Tyler!!!!

This is such a fun post. I loved looking at the old pictures, and that is so cute how they had him wrapped up like a present!

Happy birthday Tyler. It is evident that you were raised by terrific parents. Your fiancee looks a little like the actress Claire Danes, even prettier. Kathy

the sweet note you posted reminded me of all the sweet notes I have got from him over the years. He made me an especially nice card when I almost broke my nose one summer and it was hugely swollen for some time. He told me I was still pretty and that he loved me and that you all loved me. It was too sweet for words. He has always been a detail-oriented, thoughtful, and creative boy. And he must be patient and tolerant, since he put up with me growing up! I am so happy he and Karen are engaged. Again, she seemed very wonderful. Happy Birthday, Tyler!!

Heidi...do you remember by chance what year that was he wrote you that note after your nose accident? I loved reading that in your comment!

Happy Birthday Tyler. I hope you have a wonderful day.
This was such a cute post. I loved all the pictures and that note he wrote to you and Bill. That was priceless. He sounds like a wonderful person. I hope I can get to know him better. After all we are sort of related!
I am excited for the wedding. Can't wait.

Hahahaha! I didn't know that Elora thought that Tyler was going on a mission with Batman. That's so awesome!

I love that picture of Tyler leaving for his mission. Love it!

And I'm not surprised that he made a math game when he was young. He is so creative!!

He's the best, it's true.

Wow, thanks to everyone! Y'all can keep saying awesome things about me--I don't mind it all.

But really, this was a terrific post. I laughed out loud several times! I loved the pictures as much as I loved the comments. I think I remember nowhere close to half of the things said about me, and so I loved reading up.

As for Batman and me: we still keep in touch. He was one of the best companions of my mission.

(My original post was deleted, but here I am.)

I know it was during the play "The King and I" one summer with Center Stage. I believe that was the summer before I entered the fifth grade, so 1994? I still have the note at my parents house. I'll show it to you when I come home for Christmas.

Sure I'd love to see that note Heidi. The card on this post he wrote in 1994, too. I think 1994 was McKay's first play with Center Stage..Cheaper by the Dozen...I think it was that year anyway...
