He must have loved Rootbeer Floats, because he wanted us all to have a token to get a free one at A&W. So we were all given one of these at his funeral:I've never seen this done before, but I thought it was a nice gesture.
He and his wife use to live in our neighborhood, and they would turn their front yard into a Haunted House every Halloween.
And coincidentally, his daughter works with Dennis now at the Medical Board.
While I was at the funeral yesterday, my right foot suddenly started hurting, and is more swollen today.
Somehow I must have injured it earlier in the day while helping with the quilts we are making as a humanitarian effort. Our church in just our little area has a goal of making 142 quilts to help with those who will lose their homes this year in California fires. But how does one injure their foot while sitting on the floor pinning a quilt together? I can't figure it out.
We also said goodbye to our "house guests" for the week, although they never felt like guests.
My brother Richard, his wife Wendy, Natalie, and also Hailey home from Family Camp.
We had some good times together this week.
Come back again soon!!!!!

Hmmmm...It makes me wonder what would be important enough to me that I would gift my mourners with it at my own funeral. Thought provoking...
What a sweet gesture! Well, I guess now anytime anyone has root beer they'll be thinking of Doug!
Jill, if you were sitting for a long period of time at one of those tables you could have cut off circulation in your feet, it happens to me if I'm sitting at the computer a lot. And especially to my right foot, it looks just as your picture does (sometimes more swollen and turning blue!). You probably get so engrossed in your efforts, you have to make sure you get up and walk around a little, every half hour or so, and also when you are sitting down, every ten or fifteen minutes stretch your legs out and flex your feet, or just move your legs up and down under the table. I think it will help. It's happened to me when I am posting sometimes, especially if I am uploading lots of pictures, it takes so long and I am here in the same position for a few hours sometimes.
That was such a nice gesture with the tokens. It must have been a favorite drink for him. I've never heard of that either. As for your foot, could you have gotten some kind of an insect bite? I hope the swelling is down today. Good luck with all of those quilts. That is such an awesome project.
Thank you Eileen, but that's what strange...I only got on the floor and pinned one quilt and then I could feel something was not right, plus I needed to get to the funeral, so I left. I don't generally sit very much anywhere. I don't even watch TV. I did sit and visit a lot with relatives this past week now that I think about it. My foot is worse today so I think I better get it checked out if just to get some crutches or something to put on it. Ice is the only thing that makes it feel better.
Peggy, I thought of an insect bite too but up close it doesn't look like that.
I love the rootbeer float idea. That was so neat. Sometimes on my dad's birthday, I eat an It's It in his memory. Sometimes I even do it when it is not. LOL
This man Doug, sounds like a great guy.
How is your foot? I hope you are feeling better. A similar thing happen to my sister-in-law with her toe. It happened after she had walked on the beach. Something must have gotten her but we couldn't see anything and she said she didn't feel anything either.
I am glad you got to see Richard, Wendy, Nat and Hailey. They all look wonderful.
Thanks for asking Karen. I just got back from Kaiser and I'm now on crutches. The dr says I pulled some tendons. All from quilting. Den and I were laughing on the way out. Although it doesn't feel very funny right now.
Oh, Jill, who would ever had thought quilting and volunteering could be considered dangerous?!
I can't believe it! Pulling tendons in your foot while pinning a quilt. You must be sitting and shaking your head in disbelief.
Well, I guess if just sitting in a chair can cause my feet to swell, then quilting can cause you to pull some tendons in your foot!
Feel better, and stop those dangerous escapades! Quilting! You're a wild woman!
Seriously, I'll say a prayer for a quick recovery.
Feel good.
Wow, that must have been some wild quilting pary!! I am glad they were able to find out what was wrong. Hope you feel better soon.
Something similar happened to me today. I just went to the dentist for a teething cleaning/checkup and came home with a temporay crown!!!
Jill, Clever idea of the RB Float coupons. We served them at the funerals of my Grandpa Call and my Mom because they liked them so much. Sorry about your foot. Quilting can be so dangerous. So now what damage are the crutches doing? They hurt me more than my broken bones! Love the pictures of Richard, Wendy, Nat & Haily. It was fun to get to see them so often the past week. Love, Dad and Susan
You make me laugh Susan. But you are right, the crutches are not working out well at all. It puts all my weight on my other foot which is actually my bad foot to begin with.
Please tell us what happened to you Karen at the dentist! Did they break a tooth and you had to have a crown?? Or will you be telling about it on your blog? I can feel a story in there.
While the dentist was looking at my teeth he noticed that one of my teeth had about 3 cracks in it. He asked if I could come back at 1 so I said okay. I went and had lunch with Tom and then came back and got my crown. Fun stuff.
I love that idea. I think I'll have to leave something like that in my"last wishes" note. That gift speaks volumes about the man, especially if he's willing to do a haunted house for the kids every year! I love that.
As for you foot. Very, very weird. Hope it norms itself out quickly! What a busy, busy week you've had and we're just getting going on a new one!
