Happy Groundhog Day!

I once asked my Mom, "Why does Dad keep watching this movie? It must be his favorite one, right?"
She responded, "His favorite? It's the only movie he watches."

I've never been able to understand why.
What is it about this movie that people like?

I've only seen a few parts of it so what do I know.

Maybe because we can relate. Sometimes it seems like I do the same thing day after day.

This insensitive, self-centered, jaded guy is forced to look at himself and make some changes. He has to live the same day over and over again until he finally "gets it right". Each day the guy tries something different based upon what he learned from his failure the day before. I thought it was a novel idea, and Bill Murray is always funny, to me.

By the way, "getting it right" for this guy is not the same as "getting it right" for someone like you or me, necessarily. But, he did get better. He became more considerate of others, he started appreciating the little things in life, and he was more real and honest. He knew that he'd "gotten it right" because he got to go on to the next day. Fascinating idea.

Jill, YOU NEED TO WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE!!! You'll then understand its charm! It has a good moral too. Your dad and I watched it today! We loved these little snatches of it. WATCH IT! It's on three times in a row tonight. DVR/record it! Love, Dad and Susan

I went and watched this movie in the theater with my friends and we HATED it. I hated it until I watched it with John. He loves it. Bill Murray cracks him up and John laughs so hard it brings tears to his eyes. I enjoy watching John laugh. I love that movie now.

I had no idea that this tradition started with Grandpa! I watched this movie with my dad every year on Feb. 2 and had a little party. In fact last night I was commiserating the fact that we didn't watch it this year. Thanks Grandpa for a great tradition!

I'll have to watch it again. So many people have been talking about in on their blogs, and I don't even remember it that well.

I like the movie because he did get a lot of chances for a "do over" to get it right, unlike it is in real life. I have always liked Bill Murray. I haven't watched that show for a while.

I enjoyed this movie, but I don't know if I would watch it over and over again!
I did think it was sweet though.

Let us know what you think of it if you ever watch the whole thing through.
Love to you,
Eileen
