Google Reader

I need some advice.

I've seen some very moody posts on Google.  Obviously someone was mad or upset when they wrote them.  Later I can tell they've change their mind because when I attempt to comment on their actual blog, the post has disappeared...yet, it's still on Google Reader for all to see!

So here is my big question, and the only reason I don't have my blog on Google Reader:
Tell me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand it....if I write a blog post and then press "publish post"...but then later decide I want to pull that post off, I can't...Is this correct??

I can take it off my actual blog, but it will still remain on Google Reader once I post it, right?  OR does this only happen because people do not know how to delete a post from Google Reader??
Does anyone know?

Sorry. Don't have a clue.

You are on Google Reader Karen...have you ever tried to delete a post? Or, have you ever tried to fix a post...maybe change a few sentences or whatever?

Whoa! White background to black!!! What a difference! Obviously, I don't know the answer to your questions. I don't even know how to edit my blog in blogspot, let alone in Google Reader. Sorry, but I like your new background. Love, Susan

Well I'm hoping someone will know because there is not google support or blogspot support about this question that I can find.

And Susan my background is not black so I'm wondering why it is showing black on your computer. On mine it's more a gray. Is it too dark to see well?

I don't think you can get it off the Google reader, Jill, and the reason I think that is because I've seen really experienced bloggers be stuck with their retracted post still on the Google reader. I figure if there were a way to get it off, they would know how.

JMHO.

Yes, white on black is too hard for my 60 year old eyes to read comfortably! I vote change it back!

Hi Jill
There is no way to delete posts from Google Reader. Once they are there they stay there. I love the gray background by the way

I am totally clueless, I don't even know what google reader is! Guess I'm no help, but when you find out, please share! I love your background. It's classic...dark gray and white. It can look darker or lighter depending on what angle you tip your screen.

Yup, I agree with the majority, I don't think you can delete posts from Reader. You can edit them, though and the new edited version will show up. I have a generated feed for your site on my Reader, so you could prompt your readers to do the same. Geez, could I say "reader" one more time? Reader. Yup.

Google Reader is kind of like sending an email, once you hit publish it is sent and you no longer have the ability to modify or change it.

And your blog is Black and white to me here. . .I wonder how our computer settings differ for that to happen?

And thanks to Mama Pea, I just found out what a generated feed is! Works same as subscribing, but comes as a link so I can just go to it from there...rather than repeatedly check their blogsite. Now I am going to put all my private blogs on subscription! Thanks Mama Pea!

I am too computer illiterate to help you here at all, Jill, sorry.
I would hate it if I couldn't permanently delete something I wanted gone for good!
But the gray background and white words are a big help to my eyes! Makes it easier to read.

I've been reading back and I loved Laurynn's high jump! Go, Laurynn! And Congratulations to Chandler on his Tenderfoot award, and I think both he and Kylie look great in glasses, I love what they picked out for themselves! Very flattering!

Elora's story is adorable and she's such a sweet friend! Too cute! And I busted out laughing at your 'boys bathroom' story! Oh, Jill, you were such a funny little girl!

I loved reading about your brother Richard's nephew marrying Steve's daughter. I think that's beautiful!

I've missed stopping by here, things have been very busy in my 'real world' and I have been ignoring my blog world. I hope things will be back to 'normal' in both worlds soon!

Take care, Jill!
All the best,
Eileen

I don't know anything about publishing to Google Reader. For all I know, I'm already doing it. Or I've disabled it forever.

But, I really like the dark gray backqround. I think it's easier to look at than the white background.

In fact, I usually try to avoid having a white background on my blog, and when it is white, I try to avoid black text: there is too stark a contrast for comfortable reading.

That being said, I do like the classic black and white feel; in my design class, my goal was to create a design for my portfolio using only black and white (mostly to save money on printing), but it turned out pretty cool if a little barcode-ish.

Yes, you can edit them...so if you write something you soon find regrettable, you can edit the post, make it nicer, or even just type "post deleted by author" and that is all that will show up on reader. This little tactic has come in handy a time or two for me. =)

I really appreciate all the help. Now I think I get it! This is so helpful because now I have put the private blogs I read on generated feed. How convenient is that!

Also, it's good to know that if I do decide to put my blog on Google Reader, even though I can't take a post off, I can edit it totally...well except the title I guess.

So thank you all very much!!

Natalie said...

you can still edit the title as well.

Oh well, then I guess if I'm crafty enough, I can delete the post in a round about sort of way!
Thanks Natalie.
