Our favorite breakfast
5 minutes tops to make. Might not look so impressive but we love it and it stays with us all morning. We eat this about 4-5 mornings a week.
I wish I had introduced this to my kids before they left home.
It is cheap and nutritious.
Very simple.
Recipe for 1
I cup water
1/3 cup oatbran
2-3 T raisins (optional)
Bring water, oatbran, and raisins to small boil, then just simmer for a minute or less.
Put a large dollop of almond butter or peanut butter (or however much you want) on top. I don't like it mixed in.
Serve with milk. I use Rice Milk, Den uses Soy.
The added nut butter ups the protein and keeps you full all morning long. I have been eating oat bran for years, but just started adding the nut butter this year and what a difference it makes.
Sometimes I add blueberries or strawberries. Sometimes I add canned pumpkin. Or sliced banana or pine nuts. Whatever you like. Den just likes his with just nut butter and brown sugar.
When I first introduced this to Dennis he wasn't quite sure, but now, he claims to love it.
There are lots of brands to choose from out there, but these are the ones we use.
Oatmeal with cold cereal and bananas.
Bet you never thought of putting cold cereal in your oatmeal.
Oatmeal with apples
Oatmeal with pumpkin plus nut butterI get my inspiration from this blog: www.eatliverun.com
(minus the wine)
She shows photos everyday of what she eats.
Look what happened last night
Just a little pre-graduating gathering for our DIL Amy.... Not everyday a Mom of 7 and a Grandma of 7, graduates from college. It was not ...

I think you've just crossed over to the dark side...
I put peanut butter and banana in my cornflakes!
Hey, there you go Heidi. Maybe everyone puts peanut butter in their cereal but I never thought of it until this year.
In ever thought of pb in cereal either until Jasmine's nutritionist suggested it 2 weeks ago.
So tell me...what's the difference between Oatbran & Oatmeal anyways? I supposed it's the texture. Oatmeal is a staple in our house too.
Lisa, Oatbran is just the bran from the oats...so it has more fiber and I think it's more filling. I get hungry soon after having oatmeal. But I think they are both really good.
Funny that you just heard about it from Jasmine's nutritionist. Since things usually come in 3s, you will probably hear about it once more in the near future...or so that theory goes :)
Jill, this does sound good. I don't like oatmeat that much but with the added things, it might me good. I will have to try it soon. Thanks for the info.
Oh, this actually sounds really good to me. I love nut butter and I can see why that would be such a great benefit to add to an already very healthy breakfast meal. I would say that is a great way to stabilize your blodd sugar first thing in the morning. Thanks Jill for sharing! I always enjoy seeing what is on your menu. :)
I think I've developed a full blown eating disorder in the 24 hours since I first saw this entry.
I love it. I never liked the looks of it before, but you ought to try it.

It sounds very interesting, and healthy.
I'm going to make a point to try it!
Thanks, Jill!
All the best,
Eileen
Like Mom would say Richard, "Don't knock it till you've tried it."
Ok, I got the oatbran tonight, and the almond butter. I am going to try this. It looks so good. I only wish we had a Trader Joe's in Utah!
Mom would have also said, "Just because Jill tries things like oat bran or cigarettes doesn't mean you have to!"
Richard's comment is hysterical! I must say, I like my oatmeal with chocolate chips and walnuts. Simply, delish!
I'm with my dad on this one--yuck! But don't take it personally, I have a lifelong aversion to oatmeal/oatbran. It is one of the three foods I cannot eat under any circumstance(applesauce and melon are the other two).
I hear you Nat. And apple pie too...you don't like that. I can't eat watermelon or shrimp. Don't even like thinking about it.
