Are curlers back??

The above picture was taken about 1964ish?
That's my brother John tasting the icecream off the bars of the old fashioned maker,
but I don't know for sure which sister it is. I do recognize her lovely matching outfit, but can't remember who wore it.
But I do remember those curlers!

I was shocked to see these in the Dollar Store last week.

So is it just the Dollar Store, or are they making their appearance elsewhere?
I never expected to see them in the stores again.

Brought back many memories of going to bed on a Saturday night with my wet hair all bundled up in these...(the pink spongie ones on the bottom). The Dollar Store had these, too.

By morning my hair was dry and curly all over.
Does anyone relate, or am I the only ancient one on here?

Sadly or not so sadly I can relate to the curlers. I used to wear those pink foam ones too. I too have seen those curlers in the Dollar Store but haven't noticed them anywhere else. I keep my eyes open.
I had a roommate in college who use to wear big blue plastic curlers to bed.

I used to wear the sponge curlers to bed every Saturday night. I still have a set!

I wore the pink sponge curlers too when I was elementary school age!! Actually I think my sister-in-law Annie occasionally sleeps in them to make her hair curly so I guess they're back!

Julie and Heather...You are both so young and you had that pink sponge curlers...so now I wonder if I just thought those were gone forever. Since I had boys maybe I didn't notice them in the stores in the past few decades. Hmmm

I'm 31 and fondly remember those curlers! I saw them at Target recently...and bought some :)

I used to use them on my girls in the 80's. :) But I haven't seen them in awhile...

I used all of the above, but my mom's favorite were tight little pin curls, where you went to bed with a head bristly with bobby pins. No way to get comfortable on the pillow with all that hardware!

I used large curlers to straighten my very curly hair. It worked great. Yeah, they are still at Walmart and other drug stores.

Mary...When I would complain about having to wear curlers to bed, my mom would say, "You have to suffer to be beautiful." Of course she didn't really care, I could have just taken them out...but she was trying to make the point that if I wanted curls that was just what I would need to put up with.

Darlene...I wish I had had your curly hair!

Scrapally...I wish I had girls in the 80s. :)
(in addition to my boys I mean.)

Oh yes...the memories of curlers!! I used all of the above at one time or another. The ones I really disliked were the black ones with the bristles all over. Ouch!!! I didn't like those at all. The ones I used in junior high, high school and for a few years after were the large pink plastic ones. I, like Darlene, used them to straighten my naturally curly hair. Did any of us really get a good night's sleep wearing those??? I'll have to check the stores around here to see if they are back. Thanks for sharing these memories. It makes me very thankful for my curling iron :-))

Peggy...I don't remember black curlers, ever. Maybe it was a Utah thing.

Oh my, I do remember those curlers. They make my head hurt just looking at them. I never did get a very good night sleep when I wore them to bed. We did like to have curly hair though....the things we suffer for beauty!

I think everyone can relate to those curlers. If you didn't wear them you certainly saw your mom wearing them! How funny, huh? Thanks for the memories cuz it puts us back in time for sure!

We didn't go to bed with curlers on. We had a HAIR DRYER! I remember sitting under the hair dryer reading. Or doing homework. There was no way to sleep with those huge curlers on.

I checked a store today and found those pink spongy curlers and then the 'bristle' ones that I mentioned yesterday only now they are a pretty purple color and they are called "brush curlers". They do however still look like they would be very uncomfortable :-(

You might laugh but I still use curlers in my hair. I wash my hair, blow dry almost all the way dry and then I put my hair in rollers...but they are a modern version and almost look like they have velcro on them. What can I say they work...and they get rid of the frizzies, but sleep in them, never!

I ought to try that Kathy...so do you know what they are called?

I've always wanted to try curlers--but my hair has a really hard time holding a curl, even with hair spray.

But I've always loved curly hair.

Mom must have used skim milk in the ice cream or she gave first dibs on licking the beater to the cat...
