Here's one thing that has not changed in over 60 years.

Cousins Steve, Nonie, and Kathy with my brother Richard in dark overalls. 1953

This picture proves some things never change: Popsicles!  And this
was 61 years ago! They still look exactly the same. And just like
now, there's always one kid in the group who holds his upside
down, which is obvious by the look on baby Richard's face.

Thank you Ron and Yolanda for this picture. Priceless.

They might look the same but they do not taste the same. They did something to the old recipe, I am sure.

Beautiful neighborhood. Do you think that was in Aunt Leonies front yard?

At first I thought it was our block on Madison but the houses were smaller there. So I'm guessing now it is Aunt Leonie's neighborhood.

So 50s! I like the car. Is that an old station wagon?

Darlene...From the sign on that car, looks like it might be a TV repairman. Remember when they use to come to the house because TVs were way to big to bring into the shop? My guess is the kids were sent outside with popsicles while the man fixed the TV.

Richard---I wish I knew the address of that house….I'd like to go take a picture of the 2014 version of that neighborhood.

Yep, some things just can't be improved upon.

What a great photo! You have a treasure trove of these old ones, and I admit to being slightly jealous.

Whenever I look at a black and white photo, I try to imagine what the scene really looked like... in color. Those b&w photos always look so dreary! I remind myself that it wasn't dreary at all back then! Ha!

I do just the opposite Darlene. I picture decades ago (especially ones I didn't live in) as black and white. Like it's just how it was back then.

If Grant was around then he would have been right out there with them. He loves popsicles more than about anything else in this world. Also, I love the homes in the background! Where was this taken?

Grandma Honey said...

McKenna….somewhere in Fresno. I'm going to try to find the address if I can and then go take a 2014 picture. I love that style of home.

I will have popsicles in our freezer for Grant when you get here in 2 weeks…..can hardly wait!!

Jill, I used to drive by Aunt Leonies house all the time. It was on a corner lot on Van Ness, west side of street, about a block north of the First Congregational Church, between Weldon and Clinton...

Grandma Honey said...

But did she have a home before that one? I will go drive by your directions to see if it's the same as the picture. How you can remember precisely where that is ….incredible memory you have. You are better than my GPS.

Uncle Jim Wakefield owned a TV sales and repair shop. He apparently thought they would catch on...

Grandma Honey said...

That must have been Uncle Jim's car then!

LOL! Thanks for the smile this morning! …and I thought you were going to say someone always like the orange one! As a kid I noticed everyone always wanted red or purple no one wanted orange. I decided that was my favorite since I knew there would be an abundance of orange left over! But truthfully, not that you're asking. My favorites are banana & root beer. Oh baby, I gotta go buy some today! : )

Grandma Honey said...

Lisa, I don't think there was banana or rootbeer flavor back in the day. :) It's so like you to DECIDE to like orange since there was an abundance. You never want to disappoint anyone.

Look what happened last night

Just a little pre-graduating gathering for our DIL Amy.... Not everyday a Mom of 7 and a Grandma of 7, graduates from college. It was not ...
