Kylie teaches us about diabetes

Last week there was an article on the front page of our paper stating that 1 out of every 3 patients in
OUR area hospital are diabetic. ONE out of every THREE. They are calling it an epidemic.

Our granddaughter Kylie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes just 14 months ago.

I interviewed her but as you will see I don't quite know what I'm doing. But Kylie does.

Even though I've edited about half of this out, this video is not short. She talks about what it's like and
what she has learned about life. And shows us what she goes through each day.

This girl not only has courage, but she has what I call FORTITUDE. She pushes through life….just
doing what she needs to do, and wanting to help others in the process.

Very mature young lady. Sounds like a lot of work managing diabetes. My heart goes out to her! I loved Tea kissing her at the end. Cute!

WOW! Kylie's attitude and maturity just blow me away. She has always been a very special person, but seeing the grace she has displayed in the face of her diagnosis is really inspiring.

My good friend of 20 years was diagnosed around the same time as Kylie with type 1 Diabetes after going into a DKA coma. Suffice it to say, the experience was really traumatic for her. I'm so thankful that Kylie and Amy were both paying close enough attention to her health to intervene before the situation got worse.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. It was very informative and so wonderful to see Kylie adjusting so well to such a big life change. Her parents must be so, so proud.

Wow. She is amazing. That is wonderful that she is so in control and what a blessing they caught it when they did. Bless her heart!

This was a wonderful interview and I loved watching it for the second time!Go Kylie! (It was cool that I got to be there for the live interview.) I learned something this time that I missed at first, the part about it being illegal to dispose of lancets in a regular garbage can. Really? Guess I've been breaking the law, cause I didn't remember that! I just started taking my own blood glucose readings around that time. So now that I know I'll try to do better!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think glucose readings are okay to dispose of…it's the actual needles they worry about. It was fun having you there for the interview Heidi. :)

About a week before you posted this, another blog I read had a great explanation of the type 1 diabetes. The blog I read is written by a mom who has type 1 and whose 4-year-old daughter was just diagnosed. Here is the link http://makemeasaint.blogspot.com/2014/05/type-1-diabetes.html
I found it so timely that you posted about it too. I am one of those people who reads blogs but rarely (very rarely) comments but I truly read with such interest and learn so much from the lives of others.

Thank you very much Peggy Parker. You are so very kind. I just read that blog post and I learned a few things. I will pass it on to Kylie in case she doesn't see your comment.

Look what happened last night
