JFK was not the only one who died 50 years ago today

Did you know that on the very same day President Kennedy died, CS Lewis also passed away?
I didn't either, not until my brother sent me an email about it.
But what surprises me more, is I cannot find anything about CS Lewis' death in the newspapers back then.
Nothing at all in our local paper of both Nov 22 and 23 of 1963. Was he not famous until after his death?

Of course back in the 4th grade in 1963, I doubt I had even heard of CS Lewis.

You can go here to read. 100 of his most famous quotes.
The quotes are all done up Pinterest style so they are fun to see.

What I love most about C S Lewis is he made so much sense!

For example one of my favorites:

“What would really satisfy us would be a God who said of anything we happened to like doing, ‘What does it matter so long as they are contented?’ We want, in fact, not so much a Father in Heaven as a grandfather in heaven — a senile benevolence who, as they say, ‘liked to see young people enjoying themselves,’ and whose plan for the universe was simply that it might be truly said at the end of each day, ‘a good time was had by all.’”
— "The Problem of Pain"

Very wise man because look, he even said this:.

Back to JFK.I remember seeing many teachers crying at school the day he died but I couldn't figure out what was going on. Then Mr. Dow, our scary principal (principals were always scary back then) came into our 4th grade class and told us. That's it. I was worried about all those sad teachers. I remember thinking…."Why are they so upset? It's not like they all are related to him." Obviously I didn't get it.

Is anyone old enough here besides me to remember the day President Kennedy died? I'd be curious to find out how you found out…who told you? What was your reaction?

I was in fourth grade as well. The teacher received a call from the office. As she hung up the phone and slowly turned around she started to cry and told us that Pres. Kennedy had been shot and had died. I did not understand her tears.

Good to know I wasn't the only one who didn't understand the tears.

I love that homemaker quote by Lewis... one of my all-time favorite authors.
I was in high school and found out during lunch period. I remember thinking "How could anyone do that?" Our whole school was crying and grieving.

I was in 6th grade, Mr Terrell's class. Mr Dow also visited our class twice...once to say JFK had been shot and again shortly later with the final news. At that point Mr Terrell said, "Dicky Rozier we need you to go to Washington and be our new President..." or maybe it was, "dicky, you're on crossing guard duty today." I just remember it was important.

I just learned that yesterday as well, that he died the same day. Maybe it wasn't in our papers because he died in England? I too love his quotes and his books! I was only a year old when JFK died but I remember talking to my mom years later and she said how they all just stayed glued to their tvs that day. It still is an intriguing story to me...so sad to see them in video and pictures from that day when you know what is coming up next...

I can remember the day JFK was so horribly taken from us very well.
I was a Freshman in High School absent that day and therefore had complete access to watching it all unfold on TV. Then days later was watching the news when Ruby shot Oswald.
I knew even then that life would never be same.
Hope you are doing well

My school principal called all the teachers and the entire school gathered around the flag pole. The principal prayed for our nation. That was back when that was allowed in school. I'll never forget it.

Lynn…I love how your school handled this. What a feeling of unity!
And like you said, you've never forgotten it.

Look what happened last night
