Not the evening we hoped for, but all is well.

It was going to be a grandgirls only night with Grandma Honey,
finally watching Anne of Green Gables!

We'd never seen it and my friend Allyson highly recommended it....
so 5 of the grandgirls and I thought we would turn the night into a movie/slumber party.

Sort of the warm up when they all first arrived.

When I called the pizza guy back after he was walking to his car
and asked if I could take his picture, Elora suddenly walked away saying, "Oh my gosh."
That is a sign I need to be more careful. I don't ever want to be one of these Grandmas she is embarrassed by.
Hope I'm not too late.

Laurynn and Macie love this punch and often request it....
so even though I knew they couldn't possibly drink all this,
I went ahead and made it for them. Because that's what Grandma's do.
(and you would not believe how little was leftover)

Cami ate 2 slices of pizza (cheese-less for her and me) and 3 servings of pineapple!

The evening was going well so far....

Then just 5 minutes after the movie began....see Cami by the lamp looking through her magazine?
Suddenly she hit the floor with a seizure.

We waited 30 seconds (the rule) and then Elora said, "Okay, call 911."
Elora would not leave her sister's side.
(picture taken after seizure was over)
I wish I had a picture of the 3 firemen and 2 paramedics that filled our family room.
And the ambulance and firetruck that lit up our cul-de-sac and attracted the neighbors.
But it scared Téa and she snuggled up close to Laurynn.

Elora stayed right by Cami's side

Cami was planning to spend the night so we all missed her when she had to go home...
but we were relieved she was fine and sleeping in her parents' arms as they left.
The paramedic said after a seizure it's like running a marathon.

Elora started dishing up the cake she won at her school carnival that afternoon.
(although her demeanor had changed by then in worry for her sister)

Oh and the movie? We LOVED it! But we only made it through the first half
when it was about 10pm. Time to go to bed since Laurynn and Macie had a full day of service
planned for the next day with the youth of our church.
So we will have a Part 2 to our movie party another day.

After the paramedics left, I showed Erin the magazine Cami was "reading" when she suddenly
hit the floor. That's when I looked down and noticed the page she had been on.
I thought it was fitting, the name of this article. In many ways Cami feels like a miracle to us.

The next morning Laurynn rushed over from her waffles at breakfast
so she could hold Téa's hair back while she licked the syrup off her plate!
All this sisterly love in our house....I tell you, it was bouncing off the walls!

Then it was off to the church so the girls could hook up with Chandler
and get involved in a day of serving others.

Am I proud? YES I am!

Have you seen Anne of Green Gables? What did you think?
It's such a dreamy movie....takes us back to a place and time....
and so far, I find interesting the relationships developing during that time period.
Some of the adults seemed rather harsh but then underneath you can see that they do care.
Then some of the other characters, are too selfish to care.

I'm anxious to see how it all evolves and just what becomes of "Anne with an e"
Thank you Allyson!
I can tell you've started something wonderful.

Great job chronicling the night, Mom. It was Cami's first seizure without us. Thanks for following protocol and taking such great care of her.

Have you not read the book????? I read it aloud to the kids a few months ago and fell in love with it all over again. The movie captures the story perfectly, I think, but it is more magical if you have already read the book and then see it come alive onscreen. Every once in a while the kids and I pretend that we are Anne and we get all dramatic, its great fun.

Do they know what is causing the seizures? Is it fever induced or possibly epilepsy or what? That is so scary, I am so very thankful that Hosanna grew out of those.

What a memorable night. So glad little Cami is ok. I do love Anne of Green Gables. Are you going to watch all 4 of the movies? I did last winter, it goes through Anne's adult life as well. I loved it!

How did Dennis like today's BYU game or was he watching Anne of GG?

I've never seen it either & glad you gave it a thumbs up! WOW! What WONDERFUL GRANDDAUGHTERS you have! Elora reminds me so much of Jacki!

I love the gatherings at Grandma Honey's home! They will remember these precious moments forever. My heart goes out to Cami. The sad thing about seizures is they come on so suddenly without warning & there's nothing any one can do but let it run its course. Jasmine used to sleep for hours after hers but as she got older, she bounces right back to normal. It's comforting to know Cami is surrounded by a loving family!

HAHA! I love Richard's posts! He seems like a character & I constantly find myself going to hit the "like" button! : ) Thanks for the lol

What a night! Hope Cami is ok now.
Anne of Green Gables was a favorite of my mom's and mine. We read it aloud to each other. Several times! I really related to Anne. The movie was good, but not as good as the book. I actually liked Anne of Avonlea better, as a movie. You really must watch them both. Yes, there were "harsh" characters, but that was needed to offset Anne's over-the-top personality of constant excitement, drama, and scatter-brainedness. Watching everyone mature and evolve over time is the point of the book, I believe. Enjoy!!

What beautiful gestures of love all your children and grandchildren show for each other. That's what we parents live for!!

No Carly, of course I haven't read the book....I barely even heard of this. Raising all boys I lived in their world for so long. I remember faintly hearing about it in the distance through the years.

I don't think anyone knows what is causing Cami's seizures. They don't happen very often, but when they do it takes us by surprise.

Rebecca....Four of them? I knew there was more than one but I keep getting conflicting numbers on how many. How can learn the order of each one? ...because they aren't numbered, right?

Richard...You're not going to believe this but Den thought he had recorded the game but for some reason it didn't work! Then when he learned it was such a close game, he was even more upset!

Sorry about Dennis missing the game of the year. I wasn't kidding about Dennis watching Anne....I thought GG, Avonlea, Little Women, House on the Prarie, Downton Abbey, etc were required viewing. That's what Wendy has been telling me for many years.

Jill, Anne of GG is by far the best movie of all time. Serious. It may be tied with Sound of Music...but it's either one or two on my list! After Anne of GG is Anne of Avonlea and then they have another one, not sure the title where she and Gilbert are adults. Soooo good. I watch it every 6 months or so when it airs on PBS. Love it! Can't wait for my girls to be old enough to watch it. Your account with Cami made me cry...so tender to have such a wonderful sister nearby, I can see Whit taking on that role with Sami. Sister bonds are so amazing! Did Brock and his wife train you? How did you know what to do? I would have no idea what to do...just freak out and call 911. Thanks for sharing!

Oh I am so glad you started the movie! I know you will love it...Anne of Avonlea is wonderful too as it continues her story. the third movie is a thumbs down for me. I didn't care for it at all, but the first two my girls and I watched every summer! Loved the granddaughter night you planned and so sorry about Cami, love that her sister takes such good care of her! Your whole family is so amazing. I promise you will love the rest of the movie, harsh characters and all. Can't wait to hear about it!

By the way, I do NOT recommend the third movie. Before watching it, read the reviews on Amazon of the
"Continuing story". My advice, just watch the first two, and leave it at that!

Allyson and Darlene....That 3rd one must be a real doozy the way you are both warning me about it. Now I'm curious. But I will heed the warning and NOT show it to my grandgirls. Thank you!

What a night! Glad she is OK. Anne of green gables is one of my favorites. One of my favorite quotes comes from It...".tomorrow is fresh, with no mistakes". I also like to say how Josey or Hannah are in the "depths of despair" whenever they are cranky.

Ammy said...

Oh yes....and you HAVE to read the books....Hannah is reading now and is in love!

Oh this makes me so sad to hear about Cami. I love how Elora was right there. What a tender, sweet sister.

I will try this again. I really love the Anne movies. They are one of my all time favorites except for the third one. I didn't care for that one. My kids love the first two also and because of those I have two granddaughters with middle names of "Anne", with an 'e'. I hope Cami is feeling better. Looks like the rest of your night was great!

My mom and I used to watch Anne of Green Gables all the time growing up. I think the confusion with the number of movies comes from the fact that when they were VHS each movie was 2 tapes (so 4 tapes to get through the whole thing.) Then they added the third movie which as others have said is not really worth your time. It's not bad, it just has a totally different feeling to it that I didn't care for. The DVD versions I have are simply called Anne of Green Gables and A of GG the sequel; but some versions call the second movie Anne of Avonlea. You have to watch both to get the full story. If you can't tell, I really love these movies. I'm excited for you to finish them!
Oh and after the movies if you are itching for more there is a TV series called Avonlea that I really love as well. It has different characters but the same setting and used to air on the Disney channel when I was a kid.

Oh, Jill. I love Anne of Green Gables. That's a series that I will return and read for the rest of my life. They are an easy read, and just so sweet.
I think I've only ever seen the Anne of GG movies once in my life (when I was really young), so I don't have an opinion on those. But I love those books.

And I'm so glad Cami is doing okay. We sure love her!

And I love Elora, too.

PS. So glad Cami is doing better. Seizures can be so frightening.
