Wonder Years is over....done...finished

...and we're sad about it.

I can't believe we did this.
Den and I just finished watching all 115 episodes of THE WONDER YEARS
during 115 dinners we ate at home.

Like most parents, we did not allow the TV on during dinner.
But everyone is gone now and has been for 8 years. Whoa, really?
Being empty nesters and getting old like we are, has its perks.

Watching Wonder Years was all new for Den,
but I use to watch this with my sons from 1988-1990....
until the show brought up issues I didn't want them to know about back then.

I love the teenage drama....and especially the music from the 70s.

I think Dennis was drawn to it because one of the main characters,
Winnie, looking incredibly like his daughter Kim.
Especially in the episode below. If you want to just see her, go to about 3:06.

And notice the music....those great songs from my high school years were in every episode.
(because the era of this program was late 60s, early 70s)

So here's my question.....Now that we have completed the Wonder Years,
and we enjoyed it so very much, does anyone have a suggestion on what we can watch next?
We tried Mayberry but while Den can't get enough of that series, I've had my fill from the past.
We have ordered the movie Gone With The Wind and plan to
watch that over a period of about 6 dinners. (Dennis has never seen it!)

But what do we do after that? Anyone know of a particular series we might like?
Just about anything you tell us, we probably have not heard of it.

My kids would watch that once in a while but I don't remember them faithfully watching it. I only saw one or two episodes, even though I knew it was very popular. I guess we must have been over to the baseball diamond a lot during the seasons it ran. Craig and I got hooked on the English series, A Touch of Frost that we streamed through Netflix. We really enjoyed that. It's done in England and it's about a detective. We just did a marathon of the first three seasons of Downton Abby! That's great!

I love the "Little House on the Prairie" series.

Where did you find The Wonder Years? I have been wanting to re-watch that for years! I'm sure that there were episodes my parents didn't let me watch as well, but what I watched I liked. Have you heard of the new BYUtv show Granite Flats? It's a cold-war era drama that's supposedly really good.

I'm watching the Waltons. I love it.

Julie~ We watched it through Netflix. Costs us about $7-8 a month....of course that is total for whatever programs we want. Granite Flats? I'll check into it.

Rebecca~ My Mom use to love Waltons! She would watch those reruns above anything else. I never really watched with her much so maybe I'd like them now.

Raven~ Oh yes, I do remember Little House.... :) but I think I was raising babies then. So there would be many episodes I never saw. I'm going to google just what years it was on...

Peggy~ A Touch of Frost? I will google that one too. Thanks. :)

Just before Rich was born and then in the month after he was born, I watched all 11 seasons of Cheers. So there's that.

I guess we will have to get Netflix!

Really Tyler? Cheers? I've never seen one show of that. I always thought it was raunchy being in a bar and all. But since you liked it, now I'm sure it's not.

Have you guys tried Friday Night Lights or Veronica Mars?

Maya and I loved the Avonlea movies, and then we got hooked on Tales of Avonlea, a TV series from Canada. (We got it through Netflix.)

I suggest Dr. Quinn, Medicine Women. I got the complete set through mail order and then it came out cheaper through Sam's Club. I also own the complete set of The Waltons. But once Grandpa died, Olivia was written out, and John Boy was replaced, it never was the same. Why does every one have to grow up??
For those of you who watched these type of programs, did you notice the story line repeats over the decades? What happened in The Rifleman, also happened in Little House, Highway to Heaven, The Waltons, D., Quinn, etc.

I should clarify, maybe. Cheers has its unclean moments (without ever showing anything, thankfully), but it's one of my favorites to sit back and enjoy because of how the characters interact with each other. It's a bar, so people sit around and talk about their lives. And you get to watch them talk. I loved it.

Karen and I are in the third season of Veronica Mars right now. I don't know what you'll think of it, but we are HOOKED. It is such a good show. It's crime solving in a small town by a teenager who works for her dad as a private detective. Seriously, it's one of the best I've seen.

Rockford files is another good one

"Christy" was a tv series that Maya and I loved also. I HIGHLY recommend it. It's also a really good book that's a true story.

I think you would really like Downton Abbey. Do you like Seinfeld?

Grandma Honey said...

No I've never seen Seinfeld but I read it's the Romney's favorite. And we watched 2 episodes of Downtown Abbey, and while it was beautiful, we just couldn't get into it. Maybe we didn't watch it long enough?

We too are huge fans! xox

Yes!! Christy is a wonderful short series. I have those episodes on DVD and the book which is at any library. Author is Catherine Marshall.

I know my MIL & Daniel enjoy Rosemary & Thyme. Two sisters are always finding themeselves caught up in solving mysteries. I saw one episode & it was a nice show.

Christy. Definitely! It was only on two seasons (sadly!) but very well done. and the book was wonderful too. I watched 3 episodes of Downton Abbey and couldn't get into it, and I usually love those british period pieces...my daughter keeps telling me to try. :)
