Reader's Digest July 1947

This past week I found a few old Reader's Digests while thrift store shopping.
I like to read them and sort of get a feel what life was like back then.

Now remember, this is not an article telling about 1947.
It's an article written in 1947...which make it all the more real.

This first page below I didn't find so remarkable...but look on to the 2nd page below...

How do you like the first question below?
Women's "lot?" ...
Like being homemakers, wives and mothers was just thrust upon them?
Like it was just this awful terrible life?
I wonder if a lot of women really felt that way?

And the very last question makes me want to laugh.
Women were turning more responsibilities of raising their children
to the churches and schools...making the children overstimulated?
Sitting in a church service was too much for them?
Sorry but that generation knew nothing about overstimulated children.
They didn't even have TVs back in 1947.

I don't get it. Overstimulated by what? I was a child from that generation, and all I remember is playing outside every day. Very little TV, and of course no electronic games, devices, etc.... Weren't invented yet. I really would like to know what the author meant by this comment.
If Dennis lived as an adult back then, he may not have lived to celebrate his birthday today. I think both sexes live considerably longer now. And average shoe size 7 and a half? I wear size 10! LOL

That's my question exactly Darlene. The author is probably dead so we can't ask him.

Looking over this article again, I think it's just poorly written. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, but so much of this isn't clear and doesn't make sense to me.

I love how you share stuff like this that you find, by the way, Jill. It's amusing, if nothing else.

Perhaps they didn't have to worry about accuracy as much back then? It's not like their readers had Google to check it all out. The most they had were maybe an outdated set of encyclopedias at the library?

I wonder what motivated this author to even come up with these questions, which some are just so dumb but others make me want to laugh.
