My phone call to Apple headquarters

You know how a person can sound very impatient?
Like they are on the verge of just letting you have it?
This is just how the sales person sounded that I talked to at the main Apple store
(the toll free headquarters one) earlier today.
It was not so much what she said but the way she said it....
until I got to a certain part in our communication.
Then I really liked her.

So I began:
"Could you please tell me when the new Mac Pros will be available in stores,
because the local store here will not give me any idea."

Very quick and short she responded, "No. I cannot."
"Well the store here tells me I need to call their store every day and ask them.
And they said even if they have them in stock,
I can't ask them how many they have."
"That is correct."
"Well how long will this go on?"
"I can't tell you that."

I was growing quickly tired of this conversation so I said,
"Okay will it be weeks? Months? How long?
I can't be calling them everyday."
"We are backed up 4-5 weeks so it will be at least that long.
I can tell you that the stores will get themby the time school starts again."

Okay, so I think I'm getting this now.
So these new Mac Pros will suddenly be available for school purchase?
Is this a ploy to make people beg?
To play on the human quality of wanting what they can't have?

So I ask her:
"So is the 'new Mac Pro with retina', all a bunch of hype?
Is it really that much better than the regular Mac Pro?
Is it really worth paying an extra $500. for?"

So this is where her voice changes.
I feel like she was suddenly relating to me.
Like, the heck with her sales pitch, she's just going to level with this me.
So she says:
"The only difference with the new Mac Pro is the screen,
which gives a more clear picture.
But really, when I see both screens side by side
I can't even tell a difference.
I guess it depends on what kind of an eye you have."

She continues,
"I'll also tell you that any upgrades you want on the new Mac Pro,
you have to order them at the time of purchase.
You can't add anything later.
Also, you can't put any DVDs in them.
So you have to consider that."

That's when I said, "You know what? You have been very helpful.
Thank you very much for telling me all this."

Then she got even sweeter.
"No problem at all. I will be happy to help you anytime."

So within minutes of hanging up she shoots me an email.
I find out her name is PryncesJade.
But she gave me her direct phone line # and her email address.
I'm beginning to get a clue about the Mac personal service.
I think I'm going to like it.

I've also about decided to just get a Mac Pro without the retina.
You know, the "older" model.
The one that was the newer model until this Monday.
All of you who are saying you love your Mac Pro,
are talking about that model anyway...
since it sounds like no one in the US has the Retina version yet.

Thank you SO MUCH for all your comments
and phone calls and emails concerning this.
I studied them all, and you have been so helpful.
This is all new territory for me.

Oh and you want to know something else that is really strange,
at least to me?
I just now realized that I never gave PryncesJade
my email address, or even my name.
I rarely give it out to businesses
and I know for sure I didn't give it out today.
It wasn't even that long of a phone call.
So how did she send me an email after our phone call??
Den and I didn't even give any info to that Apple store
we went to twice yesterday, so it wasn't from them.
A mystery!
I guess if anyone knows how to pull up info on someone
it would be Apple.

That's cool that you decided on a Mac. I don't know how much experience you've had with Macs, but I think you'll like it. It will take a bit of getting used to (like how the close and minimize buttons on a window are in the upper-left corner rather than in the upper-right corner), but overall it's an exciting transition. I wish I could be there when you open it. (In fact, Chris Storey opened mine for me when I got it, and he set it up for me. I don't remember why I was unable to get it going, but he was way excited for me.)

Oh, I had missed your last post but our main computer on my desk is an Apple and Tyler is right, it took some getting used to but I love it now. Ray also has the IPAD and he loves it.

His laptop though is Hewlett Packard so I can't help you with that.

Thanks for all this information, I was thinking about getting a laptop for myself too!
And I'm so glad the genius at Apple (I think that's what they call them) turned out to be so helpful!

Love and Prayers,
Eileen

Its very simple how mac finds your email address. Practically anyone can do it. All they do is simply deploy micro drones that descend upon your location via communication with your cell phone RFID chip GPS locator and then scan your retina without you knowing it. Once they secure your identity and process your background check it is as easy as 1, 2, 3! There you have it! And if you ever want to know the day you will die, customer service can walk you right through it too.

Are you sure Logan is your son and not Richard's, because Logan's comment sounds like something Richard would say :-))) That is very curious how she got your email address. She sounds nice though.

It is obvious to me that there are 2 types of people in our family...those that will not allow anyone in the car to make a special order at McDonalds and those that create meaningful relationships with anonymous customer service people on the phone. In case you're wondering, I'm the former and you're the later.

Richard~ I'm not the only one in the family who got the "lover of strangers" gene from Dad. I was talking to McKenzie recently about her train trip to Utah. She said she loved eating in the dining car because she "got to talk to people she didn't know."

However, Richard, I'm not sure you will read the above. You have the "if it's longer than one sentence don't tell me about it" gene.

I like strangers who are to the point...

LOL!!! Love the banter & Peg's comment was a gem! Richard was saying there are two types not that you are the only one.....lol

You'll be impressed too that you hardly have to take your cc out at the apple store & they will print a receipt standing anywhere in the store, etc.! The part I had struggles with is the small keyboard & no number pad so you got to get used to the using the top bar for numbers.....But, like all things...you WILL LOVE IT in the END & won't go back.
