Chicken Pox, Hanford, and Superior Dairy

We read about a health seminar at the new Adventist Hospital in Hanford,
so we thought we'd check it out today.

The lunch was catered and free!
Den does like to pile it on.

The lecture by the selected Dr for this month was pretty basic.
I didn't learn anything new except for this fact:

Did you know that if you had a very light case of Chicken Pox as a child,
that you might not be immune to it now?
And there is a new blood test that will show whether or not you are immune.
If you aren't immune, you may want to consider getting the vaccine,
since having Chicken Pox as an adult could be a very serious and lengthy virus.

I'm worried about one of my sons. He was 5 when he came down with Chicken Pox.
Got sick on a Friday night and was well and back to school by Monday.
All these years I thought that brief illness was enough to make him immune for life.
Now I'm not so sure.

After the lecture and lunch, we explored the hospital a little
This is what impressed me....right when you walk into the front foyer was this picture:

And this one:
Not only did I so love finding pictures of Christ prominently displayed in this hospital.
But these were both by Simon Dewey, an LDS artist,
and yet they were displayed in a 7th Day Adventist hospital.
I find comfort when I see commonalities in religion.

Afterwards we explored Hanford a little, which included a trip to this  83 year old landmark
The very last time I was here, was back in 1977
with baby Brock in my arms.
That was 35 years ago and I remembered we had a milkshake.
I don't get to Hanford very often.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's even changed since then.

Could even be the same flooring.
But this is one place I don't think people want to see updated.
It would lose it's charm.

Next month's topic will be shoulder pain, which I'm not missing!

What a fun day. I love those pictures of Christ and that ice cream place looks fun. I am going to have to go there next time I am in town.

I knew about the possibility of getting chicken pox again but I did not know about the blood test to check for immunity to it. That is interesting that the hospital would have Simon Dewey pictures but good for them! What a cute dairy and I think from the picture you took that you are probably right about the same flooring :-)

What a nice experience you had! Your comment about cicken pox was interesting to me, because if you had chicken pox as a child, you could also get shingles as the two are connected some way. It seems that the serum stays in you blood and can break out as shingles later in life. Adults who had a light case in childhood should definitely consider getting vacine for it.

I am fortunate in that respect. For some crazy reason, I have a natural immunity to both chicken pox and small pox! My small pox vaccinations never took and I neve had the chicken pox. My mom tells me that every time one of the kids in my class, or whenever she heard of anyone having chicken pox, she would take me over to get exposed. I even slept overnight in the same bed as one of my friends who had a very bad case of it. I never caught it. Being concerned as an adult, I went to a specialist and told him my story. He took some tests, and ended up telling me that I was a very fortunate person as I had a natural immunity and would never catch either one.

I also enjoyed seeing the pictures of Christ and think it is great that one of the artists was Simon Dewey.

Look what happened last night
