Some of my favorite Conference quotes

The past 2 days have been heavenly
listening to our church world wide conference via TV in our family room.
And like I say every 6 months at this time, "So sad to see it end."

While they are fresh on my mind, here are a few of my favorite quotes from the past 2 days:

"If you come upon a person who is drowning
would you ask if he needs help?
Or would it be better to just jump in
and save him from the deepening waters?
The offer, while well meaning and often given,
"Let me know if I can help."
is really no help at all."
Can't remember who said this, but it was Paxton's Grandpa.

(I needed this reminder because I guess I am one of those rare creatures
who when someone says to me, "Let me know if I can help."
I take them literally. I need to remember that apparently most people do not.)

President Boyd K. Packer:
"Too often someone comes to me and says,
"President Packer, wouldn't it be nice if...."
I usually stop them and say, "No."
because I suspect that what follows will be a new activity
or program that is going to add a burden of time
or financial means on the family.
Family time is sacred time
and should be protected and respected."

Also, he said:
"Fathers and Mothers, Next time you cradle a newborn child
in your arms you can have an inner vision
of the mysteries and purpose of life."

Donald L. Hallstrom:
"Activity in the church is an outward indication
of our spiritual desire.
If we attend our meetings, hold and fulfill church responsibilities,
and serve others it is publicly observed.
By contrast,
the things of the gospel are usually less visible
and more difficult to measure.
But, they are of greater eternal importance."

And when we ask 'why me?' during hardships, David S Baxter, quoting Neal A Maxwell, said:
"We cannot do all the sums or make it all add up
because we do not have all the numbers."

Here's some more from President Uchtdorf:
"Remember, in the end it is the merciful who will obtain mercy."

He also quoted a bumper sticker that he saw and liked:
"Don't judge me because I sin differently than you."

And my very favorite quote of all from this conference, and also, by President Uchtdorf:
"Jesus said it's easy to love those who love us.
Even the wicked can do that.
But Jesus Christ taught a higher law..."

I am anxious to read President Packer's talk. That is something I feel very strongly. I've noticed that in general, Utah is a much busier state when it comes to church activities. As in, there are way too many things going on, and if you get involved in all of them you are frequently taken away from your family for large amounts of time. You have to pick and choose, because there's no way to do everything.

Anyway, this conference was awesome. Thanks for grabbing some great quotes! You have a good memory.

I could pretty much just cut and paste this to my blog, because I loved those quotes so much too! What a great conference!

I loved Conference also and I really liked the same quotes as you did. I think one of my most favorite quotes is the one from Elder Hallstrom about activity in church...no matter which church a person belongs to. Thanks for sharing your favorite ones.

Thanks Tyler, but they were from my notes, not my memory. :) Then I went back and watched them again so I could get the quotes exactly.

Conference weekend was such a relaxing and enjoyable time for us. I appreciate your quotes. Pres. Uchtdorfs 'Stop it' quote caught me off guard when he said it...I was expecting some intimate details, but his solution was so to the point!

We had some great talks, didn't we? We were flying on Saturday, so I had to DVR that day and am listening to it this morning.
