I like living like this

I can't explain it. I don't understand it. But I really do enjoy having my house in transition.

It's been an adventure.

Making progress...
This was so not the floor I was looking for.
I had decided not to get planks.
And I did not want to go darker.
But it seems to be working for us.
I think I'm loving it.

Still more to do....

We were able to set up a little normalcy on Saturday.
Sort of carved ourselves out a little area that we pronounced done.
Two little people stopped by who, as you can tell, didn't waste any time making themselves at home.

So I put them to work decorating a cake that Grandpa made.
I thought they did a fine job!

I like the flooring. Looks very nice, and I think darker will actually look a little better. Hard to tell from pictures, so I guess we'll have to see for ourselves...later.

That cake looks awesome. I know it's crazy messy, but it has its own kind of artistic feel. (Is that a map of the world?)

My goodness! I've been missing your posts! You've been busy and the floors look beautiful! The cake...well...it looks very colorful.
How fun to have helpers in the kitchen.

So, please explain why you went for the planks and the darker shade. What are you loving about it? We have to make this decision in the next few months, and I'm a novice at this.

Tyler~ Jonas said the cake is a picture of Woody. Téa said it's a princess. Couldn't you tell?

Kris~ Thank you!

Darlene~ A friend who has a real eye for color actually chose this flooring for me. She explained that it will go with whatever I decide to change with through the years. And she said it's a more updated look. Then she arranged for me to see this in another house and I was sold. I've also been told over and over that planks look more like wood. But really most of the flooring I liked for color, etc, were planks.

Your floor looks a lot like mine. And, while it took me a little while to get used to the darker color, I LOVE it now.

Darlene~ Sorry didn't finish my comment to you...I like the floors so far, time will tell though. They really aren't that much darker than the ones I had before. I'm still concerned about the little dip between planks that dirt will collect in there. I've been told by the company that is installing it...that these are a tighter fit than most plank flooring. Could just be sales talk, I don't know. They also told me this is the best selling laminate in the US right now. Also, could be another sales job on me. After having no flooring in the main part of our home for 8 weeks, I am just so happy not to be walking around dust and concrete.

Do you have this flooring in the kitchen? Will the grooves collect debris? I would think that panels that were very close together would be easier to keep clean. Am I wrong?

Yes we put the flooring in the kitchen too. They keep telling me the groves won't be a problem at. They said it vacuums out well. And yes, they said having the panels close together will be easy to keep clean. Hope they are right!

And I'm also glad that you're enjoying the transition process. I think that it would stress me out.

Jill, I think the floors look great! The color strikes that perfect balance between a medium and dark shade. It's very rich, warm and inviting - just like your home.
We also have plank flooring and I think the aesthetic looks wonderful, I just wish I had a decent vacuum cleaner that worked on smooth/hard surfaces, not just carpet! I bet your new floors will be very easy to keep clean with a vacuum. I never even thought about how easy the plank flooring must be to keep clean with a vacuum, as opposed to sweeping and mopping.

I am loving that floor. I love the darker color. I have hardwood in my kitchen and love it so much!!! It is so much warmer and cozier than tile.

I think you have the same flooring we just put in our kitchen and living areas. We love it and have had no problems with debris collecting in the plank grooves. How fun! Now I can think of you everytime I see my floor.

How do you think that flooring would work with sand being tracked in? We live in the desert! Would it get scratched?

I'm loving the look of your floor and am really jealous! It is going to be just terrific, and I am sure you will end up loving it as Sue loves hers. It does remind me a lot of hers, by the way.

That cake looks pretty darned good. I am impressed that your husband made it!!

Good question about the sand and scratching the floor. I don't know! Dennis took his car keys and tried hard to scratch a plank before it was put in but it left no mark at all. The laminate we just took out had NO scratches (that we could see anyway) and we had it for 7 years with many grandchildren running and playing and pushing toys around. But this new floor...remains to be seen how it will hold up.
