Book Club 2012

Just got our Book Club list for the year. I regret I didn't submit the ones I was interested in. For example, I want to read The Happiness Project...which I will on my own, but it would have been fun to discuss it with our group.

I've been reading January's for a while now.
I'm looking forward to March since I loved Mere Christianity.
I'm totally onboard for April.
May I'm not sure about and June, would give me nightmares for the rest of my life
(I remember the story in the news.)
I'm not a big fan of Mark Twain so I may skip July.
August looks semi interesting.
Not sure about Sept-Oct-Nov.
I think I will give Dec's a try.

So here's the list.
Have you read any of these?

wow some interesting books.
Screw Tapes...our book club did and I was not so much a fan.
Some of the others look good. I always love seeing what other clubs are reading. Thanks!

The only author I'm familiar with is David Baldacci-I've liked his other books, haven't heard of this one...but then again I haven't read a book since Whit was born! I love that you post your book club reads! ;)

We read both "Unbroken" and "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" for my book group. LOVED "Unbroken," truly beautiful and inspirational (just stick through it until the end!.

The other one was also good, but it has more naughty words. I liked the story it told, but some in our group didn't.

I'm envious of your apparently well-organized book group. Ours has been slowly dying, and might be eliminated. It makes me so sad - I've read so many wonderful books I never would have otherwise.

I've read April's book but that's all. You'll have to let us know your thoughts.

The Millionaire Next Door is a favorite of mine. I enjoy reading Thomas Stanley books and we talk about them often at different conferences I attend.

Haven't read any of these, though The Screwtape Letters is on my short list. Let me know how you like them, okay?

=)

The Glass Castle is excellent. Really shows what memoir can do. I've gotten a lot of inspiration from it.

I am just getting started with Daughters In My Kingdom. You'll have to let us know how you like the other ones I haven't heard of any of the others.

I have North and South on my "to read" list. It is one of my favorite movies that I watch over and over! I am struggling through the screwtape letters right now. I know it has good learning stuff in there, it's just a little too deep for me...or I'm just too simple minded! Did not like Glass Castle at all. Aside from all the bad language, it was a depressing read for me. And I also have between a rock and hard place on my list. My daughter read it and said it was really good, and I just like how the real story turned out, his courage and strength to do what he did. The others I haven't heard of. (Except Daughters of our Father's Kingdom - did my whole RS lesson on that yesterday!) Our book club is doing all history this year. Please give us book reviews as you do them!

Jill, your email does not work. Do you have a new address? It just bounces back. I wanted to send you an email and can't!

The only book I've read is The Screwtape Letters years ago. It was very interesting but it left me feeling unsettled. Although I felt much more aware of temptation and the wiles of evil, and I almost think I should read it again to remind myself.
The other books sound interesting, please post about them.
My sister-in-law keeps talking about starting a book club, I wish she would, it would force me to read. I used to read a book a week, now I hardly ever read anymore.
Enjoy!
Love and Prayers,
Eileen

THANK YOU for posting this! I LOL'd at your honesty on the reads of the month! I also would love to read the Happiness Project with you & discuss! : )

None of those look fun at all to me. LOL But I did enjoy reading the Millionaire Next Door ages ago! I'll have to look at Amazon to see what these books are about since I've never heard of 'em!

Sounds like some pretty interesting books, but unless Sue puts them on her Kindle, I won't likely be reading any of them. When she gave it to me, she got it in her name so now when she buys a book, she can and does just forward it to me, so all my reading is on the Kindle. It is so much easier for me to hold as it is so light weight. I absolutely love it and I can never catch up with all the books she reads. I have read about 175 of them and have about that many more to read. She is a prolific reader and even though I am too, I will never ever catch up with her.

If you enjoy one, let her know and she will very likely buy it on her kindle then I can read it too. She does like to have recommended books to read.

Look what happened last night

Just a little pre-graduating gathering for our DIL Amy.... Not everyday a Mom of 7 and a Grandma of 7, graduates from college. It was not ...
