A Sad Day, A Happy Day

It's over.
Dennis is no longer Supervising Investigator of the Medical Board, Fresno District Office.

No more going here:

No more of me going in this little room, and waiting for the secretaries to buzz me in.

No more of this.

Or this.

No more chatting with the medical consultant next door, Dr. Knapp.

No more calling his more than wonderful secretaries and saying,
"I know he's in a meeting but could you please give him this message?"
well okay, I only did that a few times

His snack drawer is just about cleaned out.

George Washington will be coming home, too.

And no more going in here to find his sack lunch with the drawn on heart.

No more of this guy and his practical jokes.
Which Den will miss!

One of the investigators, "Funny John" as Hailey calls him, quickly put in his Halloween teeth before we entered his office one day, a few years ago. When I saw him open his mouth I was worried that Hailey would be frightened. Instead she looked right at him and said in her very soft spoken serious way, "My daddy could fix your teeth. He's a dentist."

A luncheon yesterday in his honor.

After 30 years with LAPD
and 10 years with the State....
Now it will just be him and me.
Actually he has started his own business so he won't exactly be relaxing.
But he will be home with me. Working.
And I'm not complaining.
Good thing we like each other.

Pass this comment on to your sweet husband. "Congratulations Dennis on your retirement!!! I'm sure Jill will keep you busy at home though :-)) It looks like you had a wonderful party and I'm sure you deserved it. Happy Retirement!" Jill, that last picture of you two is very nice! Thanks for sharing Dennis' retirement party!!!

It was wonderful to share in this special day for Dennis with the narrative and pictures. Thanks for including all of us. Way to go Dennis! Best of luck in your new venture. I'll bet you'll miss the "drawn on hearts" on your lunch sack the most. Love, Dad and Susan

Congratulations to Dennis!! I know he's been looking forward to this for a little while now. And I know he's worked really hard to be able to retire now, too.

(This means you'll be coming to visit us more in Provo, right Dennis?)

My husband isn't quite there yet, but getting close! I think we will like it, but there will definitely be some adjustment as I'm used to rarely having him around. And he likes to get me involved in his "projects" when he's home. Projects that interfere with MY projects.

heehee

=)

PS. I hope he enjoys his retirement and a new business on the side. That sounds like a great way to go!

I had no idea your retirement was upon us...I know a potential drug ring in Santa Catalina preying on seniors you may want to investigate. Whatever they're selling these unsuspecting tourists causes irrational, thrill seeking behavior...

Congrats to Dennis. What's the new business? Isn't that just like a man to go on working even after he retires?

When my husband "retired", he didn't skip a beat in starting new projects. He's busier than ever! Tha's what makes him happy and fulfilled.

Congradulations, Dennis! I'm echoing, "What is your new business?"

His new job? He started this several months ago and he's been working on it every evening after work, and on weekends. Now that he's "retired" he will be able to work on it during the day. He does coding for ambulance companies. So far he has 2 clients and wants no more than 3-4 total...because that will keep him pretty much busy full time. Ambulance coding means he bills insurance companies for ambulance transports. He enjoys it. How he could enjoy it is a mystery to me.

darlene said...

So, how would that effect my son, Ben, since he is an EMT and drives an ambulance and fills out tons of paperwork with each transport?

Grandma Honey said...

Darlene~ I hope Den will answer this. I don't know exactly...But I would think Ben would submit that paper work to his ambulance company and then someone like Dennis would take it from there. I think.

I tried to comment on this the other day, Jill, but I got booted off. This was a sweet post, and I'm sure it was a bittersweet day.
I wish you both all the best in your new ventures.
Love and Prayers,
