our weekend...the good, and not good

I got to attend a very LOVELY baby shower for Ashley Reynolds.
The food was more like a banquet!  Everything was just SO NICE.

The day got even better when these 2 sweethearts arrived.
After a Mexican dinner with the girls, we walked over to Savemart.

While Dennis was picking out treats for the cat, Elora spotted someone she knew.
She turned to me and said,  "Oh I just saw Mrs. S walking by. She wanted to be principal of our school but Mr. B got the job instead."

I asked,  "HOW do you know all that?'

She paused and then said,  "Grandma Honey...technically I go to that school."

(technically??  She cracks me up.)

Yesterday we very much enjoyed watching my son Logan give a talk in his ward about humility and patience.  He talked about his childhood and how summer vacation use to seem so long...and then once school started again it seemed like forever until the next summer would come again.  I think every child feels that way. He explained how he thinks that is how God begins teaching us patience when we are young, that we will need when we are older.  Never thought of it that way, but he may be right.

Then after church we went to dinner at Amy and Logan's house.  That is always a treat for us.
Scrumptious food!

I couldn't understand why the twins were waiting patiently for their food
until I learned their Dad had given them samples of the punch before dinner.

The hard part about yesterday was only having 2 hours of sleep the night before.  I just could not turn off my mind. Two hours is not enough for me.  I felt like my body was being tortured, and even left church TWICE to go home and take short naps.  And even though I only slept from 1am to 3am, I was late to the first meeting at 7:30!  Only 2 minutes late, but I had 4 1/2 hours to get ready, so I really don't know how that happened.

And then the really hard part about yesterday was learning about the Bishop in Visalia (less than an hour from us) who was shot and killed during church.  I keep thinking about his wife and 6 young sons.  My heart hurts for that family, and they will be in our prayers for a long time.  Once again, I am incredibly amazed that the choices of one, can affect so many. Forever. What peace to know this life is not the end.

Elora's conversations always amuse me :-) And I remember how those summer vacations used to seem long and now they just fly by and the school year seems so very long. The dinner looks yummy. The killing of that bishop made news here in Salt Lake. You are so right when you say that the choices of one can affect so many forever. My heart goes out to the family and the ward members.

Jill, The pictures are lovely. Elora is so precocious with an advanced vocabulary, and evidently inside information.

Breaking heart over the tragedy in Visalia. The lesson in SS yesterday was about why bad things happen to good people.

Thanks for sharing. Hope you can get some sleep!

Love, Dad and Susan

I read that Dennis had fed the twins the "pouch" not punch before dinner and thought that meant he had given them the cat treats from SaveMart...a good idea, for sure, but one that would probably not work once Grandma Honey or Chickee got wind of it.

Richard...I really wish I could figure out how your brain works. It must be very colorful in there. Every time I think of the twins eating the cat treats, I laugh all over again.

Does your ward now start at 7:30 am or is that for your calling that you have to be there so early? I couldn't believe the story about the Bishop. What a tragedy!

Like I said, a good idea, but Cheerios are cheaper.

Miranda...So happy to see you here..No, church starts at 9am but I went to ward council for Anna at 7:30 because she took Julia back to Provo for school. Anna and I are in YWs together and love it.

I didn't know you had a cat. You should do a blog on it.

Loved all the pictures.
Elora cracks me up.
I heard about that Bishop in Visaila. That was so sad. I used to worry about something happening like that to Tom when he was the Bishop.

Rebecca...Actually I was waiting for the cat to die before I did a blog about her. I guess that sounds terrible, but she is 16 years old.

Karen...I thought Tom still was the bishop...when did he get released?

Just looking at that dinner makes me hungry! They have such a nice family, don't they?

=)

PS. Thanks for your sensitive comment on my post about the Visalia incident. It makes great sense that you would feel this tragedy so deeply. I wish Sister Sannar could have a chance to talk to you or someone else who knows firsthand what this will mean to their family. Spending time with someone who really knows what you're feeling can be so comforting.

The whole thing saddens me more than I can say.

Technically speaking...I love Elora!

The news of the Bishop is tragic. When I heard it, I wasn't sure how far it would have been from you and I was immediately worried. I wondered if you knew the family.

I read through the other posts. I love the poem from the wedding!

I also love Tea's eyes. She is a doll. I thought of an alternative meaning for her PFO. "Pretty Fabulous Opening." I hope she will remain healthy. It sounded like the doctor thought she would.

oh my! That is kind of funny about the cat. But 16? That is amazing!!! But I don't know if this is a good or bad thing.....my mother in laws cat lived to be over 18!

Rebecca...I don't mean to say I want our cat to be gone. I don't. I've been just trying to prepare myself for a few years now. We have never had a pet live this long. I remember clear back when Brock went on his mission in 1996...I was hoping she would live til he got home again. Turns out she lived through all 4 of my boys' missions. Each winter for the past several I have thought to myself that Alex won't make it...and she does. Your MIL's cat lived til age 18!?? Wow. Then maybe we have a couple years left with Alex.

Is there a reason Austin is topless???

It bothered Dennis too. I should have drawn a shirt on Austin.

Look what happened last night

Just a little pre-graduating gathering for our DIL Amy.... Not everyday a Mom of 7 and a Grandma of 7, graduates from college. It was not ...
