Her favorite line from The Wizard of Oz

While her cousins were traveling down the mountain heading home from Family Camp, I took  7 1/2 year old Elora to see our community play, The Wizard of Oz.

We were both blown away by how well it was done. Incredible is more like it.
Although, they could have shortened it.
It was a bit too long for us Grandmas.

On the way home Elora said to me,  "Grandma Honey, I want to tell you my favorite line from the play.

Then she says,  "It was when Dorothy says to the wicked witch of the West,  'How can you be so cruel?'
And the witch says, 'Lots and lots of practice."

We talked about how we get better at whatever we practice, whether it is to be cruel or to be nice.
They both take lots and lots of practice.

And Elora's favorite character of all, Toto..shown with her owner.

The line was way long to see Dorothy, so we just took a side picture of her.

And we did see a few lookalike Dorothys

Kendal Pope, from our ward, was absolutely amazing as a Munchkin.
What a cutie, and a total natural on stage!
She had other parts as well, and Elora became very good at spotting her.
I have fond memories of my sons being on stage and no matter how many times I go to this theater, I always have a few moments where I just don't understand where the time went.  Some things a Mom just can't let go of.  Like the fact that they will never be my little boys again.

Note to Dad and Susan:
While at the theater going through my purse for my ear plugs, I found 3 dominoes.
Might you be missing any from our visit the other night?
  I'll save them for you.

How fun! I love that you had such a great experience with Elora. And I'm secretly laughing about the "found" dominoes.

I have the exact nostalgia about plays with kids in them. That may have been my all-time favorite time of life. Oh, well, I can think of others too, but it's in the top 5.
I bet Elora would love to be in plays!

These pictures are absolutely delightful! We love, love, love them!

Elora looks like she is in heaven. What a great grandma you are.

It appears that a good time was had by all.

Love, Dad and Susan

P,S, We'll collect our dominos later!

I didn't make it to the play because no one would go with me. I need a granddaughter! Sounds like a very fun time (even if it was long). And the dominoes...funny funny!

We took all the kids to see The Wizard of Oz and we loved it too. Peyton enjoyed watching the Center Stage kids at the beginning and was doing all of their movements with them. Kendall Pope sure was great, I think she definately has a future in theater. I'm curious to know the story about anonymous and what they commented, maybe you can tell me the next time I see you!

Who played the wicked witch? She looks like a friend of mine. Seriously, who was it?

What fun memories for Elora with you!!! You are such a fun grandma! She will remember all of these fun times with you. And I agree with Darlene...I think Elora would love to be in plays! I'm sure you will be seeing her in some! Thanks for sharing these pictures!

WOW! I would never think of that line, but actually it is quite profound. Really....when you think about it. How many of us are "quite good" at things, good or bad, mostly because of practice. That amazes me that Elora would pick this out.

I can't find my program Robin. I hope someone else will see this and they will know.

I know what you mean Rebecca. I was surprised she caught that line too. When she told me I said, "I didn't even hear that one." And she said, "Well you were there!"

Hi Jill,
That reminds me of a quote that goes something like this "That which we persist in doing becomes easier - not that the task itself has changed but our ability to accomplish it becomes greater"

I love this post. And I am a complete sucker for all things Elora.

=)

PS. Of course, she picked the best line admirably.
