Vitamin D and the flu

I find this fascinating.
If you don't, at least listen to the first minute of this.

And here's what KSL TV had to say about Vitamin D last week:

Both my husband and I have been taken D3, in soft gel, which is apparently important for absorption.

Worth a try, right?

=)

I am definitely going to start taking Vitamin D supplements. I hear from time to time how important Vitamin D is but have not done anything about it, but going through this flu experience has motivated me to act upon this. Thanks so much for sharing this Jill.

Since I started taking Vitamin D (at recommendation from my DR.)I have been able to go off all the anti-depression medication and have felt better than I've felt in a long time. In fact if I miss a day I can tell by the way I feel....I definitely think there is something to this.

Okay, you all have me convinced! I'm going to start taking it too.

I actually just read something the other day about how it's now thought that the sun does NOT cause skin cancer, and that the sun actually promotes healing in cancer patients.
I'm going to have to do more research on that one!

But I know I do feel better in the Spring and Summer when I am outdoors more often. And I know Sweden has a high rate of depression because of the long, dark winters they have. So sunlight definitely has it's benefits.
A lot of my husband's family is in Sweden. I'm going to tell them to start taking Vitamin D.

Thanks, Jill!
All the best,
Eileen

Better yet, get out in the sun every day. In sunny So. Calif. we can do it all year round. Just a few minutes a day is supposed to be beneficial.

Wow! Maybe this is what was wrong with my grandmother. Every winter she would get very depressed etc. How much vit. D should someone take and what foods is it in?

My dr wants me to take 5000 units a day...I think it's units....I do remember the 5000 part. I was tested and my vit D is low but I was told most everyone is low in Vit D. It's a very simple blood test to find out. Plus I try to be out in the sun for 20 min each day. I never noticed til this year how much sun we really do have this time of year around here. It feels cold in the house so I just think winter...but I go outside now for the 20 minutes and it feels so wonderful.

That's great! Just be careful not to get sunburned!
The sun really is a mood lifter. Try living in the Pacific Northwest for the fall, winter, and spring sometime to experience what lack of sun can do to your mood!

That is very interesting. John went to the doctor a few months ago and told him to start taking 5000 units of vitamin D a day. He said that a lot of cancer patients lack it and will need to be in it the rest of their lives. But since then, I have heard people everywhere talk about vitamin D deficiancy. I think more people should take it. After seeing that first video, I am going to be sharing Johns vitamin D bottle with him....OH! And a month ago when me and the girls were sick, John was perfectly healthy...makes sense now.

I found this video so interesting. I have been thinking a lot about taking a vitamin D supplement, because I've been hearing how important it is to our immune system. I heading to my pharmacy in the morning to get my supply. Thanks for sharing this video! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
