Primary Ideas!

Today I got to visit another ward's Primary (for ages 3-11) to watch Elora give her talk. So while there I noticed something interesting on the back of their piano. (the back of the piano actually faces the children)

It looks so organized and also colorful, and serves to cover up the wooden slats in the back of the piano.
Take a look:Here's a close up of some of the pockets:

Also something else that was really fun.
The chorister gave each child a painted Popsicle stick (more the size of a tongue depressor)
She had them all painted bright colors with a ribbon attached to each one.

Then she let each child "lead" the music from their chairs...with all the colorful ribbons swaying everywhere. So pretty, so happy, and the kids keep busy while learning the songs!

Here is just a very short clip to help describe better. I didn't want to disturb their meeting so I just took it very discreetly, and quickly, but I think you can get the idea.

I tried posting a comment but I don't think it went through.
Anyway, loved the video, and loved the idea of the pockets on the back of the piano and the popsicle stick with ribbons.
This was such a sweet post!

Let's see if this comment goes through.

Very cute Jill and great ideas. Some of this I could use for school. I wish you could have gotten Elora's talk on tape. Could she do a repeat performance for us????

This is so cute and clever!! This chorister really has a fun idea for the children, and what a great cover for the back of the piano! I absolutely love visiting Primary to see all of the new and different ideas that people come up with. I'm glad you took the pictures and video clip to share. I'm passing that along to our Primary chorister.

Wish I could have heard Elora's talk. What did she talk about?

Cute post. Isn't it amazing to see people's creativity? I'm constantly in awe. Leading the singing in Primary is a fun, fun calling. My daughters have as much fun as the kids if not more so. I love people who serve. Love, Dad and Susan

We have some similar set-ups, but I never thought of utilizing the back of the piano that way. I'm going to have our primary prez (Wyndie) check this post. I have a feeling she'll like it!

I don't think I told you, but for our quarterly activity in November we had the kids make those pilgrim hats that you and Elora demonstrated on your blog! And my kids made them at home. Yummy!

By the way, I'm still waiting for that Zucchini Surprise recipe. If Logan just threw it together, that's okay by me. Just have him dictate to you what he remembers. I'll settle for that! ;)

Zucchini Surprise! Probably not something you would want to cook on Hell's kitchen, but good enough for the kids. First fry your zucchini and/or yellow squash in some butter until it starts to show the first signs of being cooked. Then throw in your eggs (2-3 per person) and any lunch meat or already cook meat. You can add anything you like (i.e. onions) if you want. Scramble everything together until the eggs are coooked to your liking. Then take off the burner and throw in some Kraft singles (1 to 2 per person), mix until melted and enjoy. The smaller the portion the better it will taste is my experience. I always add salt and pepper, some hot sauce would do fine too if you like that. Its basicly a scrambled omlet. But I must admit my favorite recipe for zucchini is the recently created "Zany Zucchini," not intended for the novice at heart.

We do the same thing at song time in High Priests quorum here.

What a cute idea. I especially love the stick thing. I will have to tell my daughter, she helps with the music in her Primary.
