Elora's lucky penny

Saturday evening we needed to get a few things at the store. As we were walking in somehow Elora noticed a little penny on the ground. Maybe because she is closer to the ground than we are. Maybe because she is 6.

As we were shopping Elora kept asking me if she could please have that penny by the door. I told her we would see if it was still there as we were leaving. She wanted to go get it. I told her, no, she would have to wait for us to go with her.

Finally we were finished shopping so while Dennis was paying for our groceries, Elora and I went to find the penny. Sure enough it was still there. She told me that her teacher told her pennies are lucky.

I didn't want her to think it was okay to just take things, so I told her we would need to ask a clerk first if she could have the penny. She did, and he said, "Sure, go for it."

I read the front and told her it was made in 1957. I told her I was just 3 years old in that year. She said, "Well maybe you had this penny when you were little." I said, "hmm...maybe I did!"

Then she said, "Well why did you leave it on the floor of the store after you dropped it?"

I love the practical way young children's minds work! Who knows, maybe that penny was in your own little hand once upon a time!

This story has given me my laugh for the day...and what a great laugh!! I know the reason why you enjoy having Elora around so much is because she is so cute and entertaining. I'll think about this post for days to come!

If that penny was yours, then why did you have to ask the man for it? ha ha. This was such a cute story. Someone needs to write a book.

"Kids say the darndest things!"
My four year old son once asked me "Why is Tigger (our dog) eating that rabbit?" And I said, "Because he's a meat-eater." He looked puzzled and said, "I thought that was a rock flying around in space!"
