Our New Year's Celebration last night

We celebrated the New Year last night, just Den and I. We played a couple games of Scrabble and
watched a few movies. Then while Den popped the corn I made us both hot chocolate with
marshmallows. At midnight we ran outside with our pots and pans and clanged them together. That
didn’t really do the night justice so then Den brought out his 38 and fired a few shots in the air. So
romantic. We wanted to do somehthing different this year so about 12:30 I fried up some eggs,
sausage, bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes and we had our very first 2016 breakfast.

So of course none of that happened. Our real celebration was so much better. He watched the BYU
basketball game and ate GF cookies, while I studied for my Primary lesson in the other room and had
my granola. About 10:30 we got ready for bed. As I was filling up my thermos of water from the
fridge for the night (my nightly ritual)….Den came in and stood beside me and said, “Wasn’t it 17
years ago tonight that we kissed for the first time?” We were at a singles dance that night and all the
power in the church building suddenly went out. The entire group of people fled out to the parking lot
and just stood there hoping for the lights and heat to go back on in the building. It was freezing cold
and Den suggested we go sit in his car. That’s where it happened. Our life changing kiss. I knew I
was falling for him. And the rest, is our blessed history.

Ha! I was worried about you at first. I was thinking..."She should NOT be drinking hot chocolate, she is dairy free..." Then I thought "Dennis was shooting his gun? I am pretty sure that is not allowed..." So funny. Your holiday sounded about as exciting as ours, except John was studying his Sunday School lesson he has to teach and I was reading my book. Happy New Year.

Aww... I like the real story! And I'm so glad he didn't really shoot his gun! What goes up has to come down! Yeah, we had a nice evening at home, too. Sweet. I told my son that I figured out years ago that if I just went to bed at the regular time with no "celebrating", I would wake up the next morning and it would always be the new year.... no matter what I did the night before. There was no requirement to "bring it in" in any particular way. What a revelation!

Dennis would never ever shoot his gun into the air. I think just about equally as shocking to our kids would be us playing scrabble and watching movies. For half a minute last night I asked Den if he would like to watch a movie...since it was a holiday and all. He said, can you really watch the whole thing? I said no, but then neither could he. I don't know what's wrong with us, but at least we are a perfect match.

You are so right Rebecca....I would never drink hot chocolate.

You had me going there for a mini-second!!!!! LOL!!!!!! Although I would believe that you would fry up some eggs and hash browns in the middle of the night! ;) Love the story of your first kiss. I didn't know that, so it definitely brought a smile to my face. Love you both. Happy new year!!!!

It sounds as though your brother Richard with his humor(?) is rubbing off on you! As I was reading that first paragraph, I was in disbelief and shocked. I just could not picture you running outdoors and clanging pots and pans together. It would have been a sight to see! Then to say that Dennis shot his gun in the air. That about pushed me and Tom over the edge. You seemed to have celebrated the New Year and April Fool's Day all in one.
I, too, loved the story of your first kiss and I am very impressed that Dennis remembered. Such a romantic guy.
Happy New Year to both of you. Wishing you all God's good things.

You didn't have me fooled, because I know you don't care to play games and Dennis would never shoot his gun, but most of all, I knew he would be watching the BYU game :-) With 9 of our grandchildren layed out in sleeping bags in the living room for a "cousin" sleepover, we didn't have our usual quiet New Year's Eve. I'm paying for it now though because I am dead tired but it's a great tired. Happy New Year, dear friend!

Just think of the great memories your grandchildren will talk about later. What could be better than a sleep over with the grandparents to ring in the New Year. I understand the good kind of tired!

I was very skeptical of your story - and then Dennis shooting a gun...I knew that wasn't right! ha ha. Good one. I love the first kiss story and you two are a perfect fit! Happy New Year!

I think this might be one of my favorite posts ever! You had me going at first but I was quite shocked. Very sweet first kiss story, I had never heard that!

This post is hilarious. I was thinking, "Man, Jill and Dennis partied harder than Tyler and I did." But I had the hardest time imagining you guys going out and making a huge ruckus in the neighborhood.

And I'm glad you guys are such a good fit for each other. We're pretty big fans of yours over here. :)
