Elder Perry's final words to us...

When Dennis heard yesterday that this great man passed away,
he said it felt like a family member had died.
I remember when he spoke these words towards the end of his talk last month at General Conference:

"...Let me close by bearing witness (and my nine decades on this earth fully qualify me to say this) that the older I get, the more I realize that family is the center of life and is the key to eternal happiness..."

I remember when he was called to the Quorum of the Twelve in 1974 to fill the vacancy created by the death of Pres HB Lee the previous Dec..I took the occasion of the announcement of Pres Lee's passing to call Wendy ( who I had just met the weekend before) and ask her out for the first time. The call went something like this, "uh, Wendy, did you hear that Pres Lee died?...Would you like to go see a movie with me?"

The second date was much easier.
