I think of this every summer.

Many things I have learned from my Dad....but you know something he did that really made a huge impact on me? I think about it every summer. Growing up, whenever we would go on a family vacation he had us all pack our church clothes. Where ever we were on Sunday, we would find a church to attend. I remember thinking even as a little girl, "My Dad loves this church so much that he doesn't even want to miss one week of it." A very simple thought but it spoke volumes to me.

It could not have been an easy task to find room for Sunday clothing for all 10 of us.
But that's what we did.

And to this day, when ever Dennis and I are out of town, we find a church on Sunday.
And you know what? It's always the highlight of our trip.
Thanks be to my Dad.

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there...
Especially the one who raised me, the one who loved me through marriage,
the two who helped raise my sons, and the four I gave birth to.

When you went to a new church did you find it to be very different from yours, or were they all pretty much alike? Like you were going to a house that was built just like your own so you already knew your way around.

Yes they are all pretty much alike. I love how I can walk into any of them and feel immediately at home. The architecture is usually different so I don't literally know my way around....but the hymns, the messages, the spirit, families sitting together, to me, is pretty much comfortingly the same.

Is every church teaching the same sermon on the same Sundays?

Now "THAT's A GREAT TRIBUTE!"

No. We don't have a paid ministry so we take turns as a congregation doing the speaking. But when we break into classes (adults, children, teenagers) we have a manual for each group that we teach from....but again, it's all volunteering. The manuals are written in such a way that we are encouraged to give our own thoughts and have class discussion.

I remember going to church in Walla Walla, WA while on vacation. Other than that, I don't think we traveled over the weekend very often. I remember holding Sacrament Meeting at scout camp as a 12 year old and drinking the Sacrament water from a common canteen...it even struck me then as unsanitary. Maybe I should have been a Girl Scout.

I agree....I don't think we went away often on the weekends but I do remember at least several occasions attending church out of town. I would sometimes go on Allstate trips with them and we would always go to church then.Mom and I went on a few coastal trips just the 2 of us, and we found a church then too. Never would they consider just ignoring the Sabbath. That has stayed with me all my life.

I really enjoy going to church in the places we visit. It's fun! I love to see and meet new people. And getting to partake of the Sacrament, no matter where we are, is always comforting and makes me feel at home (and makes my week complete). :)
Great tribute to your wonderful dad!

Look what happened last night
