Straws and eulogies

We go through lots of straws at our house.
And since I have limited kitchen drawer space
I kept thinking of the straw dispensers on the counter at Newberrys
where my Grandma would take me to get rootbeer floats back in the 60s.

Sort of like this...

So I checked on Amazon and sure enough I found one.
I've had it a few weeks now, and I love it.
So nice to have easy access to a straw, and I like the old fashioned look.

My grandchildren especially love it.
They just lift the lid and the straws fan out into a circle, so they can choose one.

It makes me think of my Grandma even more often than I already do.

On another note... Do you like to read eulogies? I do.
And this one by Steve Jobs' sister is especially interesting, and touching.
It's worth reading, especially the ending...but don't skip ahead. Read it here.

The eulogy was so interesting. I'd love to know the actual dynamics of his childhood. A sister he didn't meet until adulthood, another sister at his bedside. What's the story? Aside from that, I loved the eulogy. I am currently listening to his biography. So interesting to hear all the ins and outs of the business and his vision and exactness. Thanks for sharing. Love your straw holder. I keep mine in a pitcher in the cupboard as I don't want to use up sideboard. I can see why the kids would love it! Love, Susan

Susan~ I think the sister who gave the eulogy was his birth sister (his birth mom went on to have other children I think)...and the sister by his bed must have been his adopted sister he grew up with. I hope I got that right. I was thinking of reading his biography...let me know if it's good, okay Susan?

Just beautiful, Jill. Thanks so much for calling it to my attention. I would hate to have missed it.

=)

PS. I love the straw holder, too. Isn't ebay cool??

I loved those straw holders! I'll have to think about getting one since my grandkids are always wanting straws when they come here to visit.
