Watch Dennis make his Green Smoothie

We've had a few people ask us how Den makes his Green Smoothies. So he's here to show you.

I really did try to shorten this but it's still 9 minutes. Sorry.
And as you will see, it's unrehearsed, and very raw. Not only the food, but what we say.

Just so you don't think he had a wardrobe change in the middle of blending his greens...I filmed him yesterday and today (trying to get the lighting right), and then sort of put them together.

That was great. Dennis should have his own cooking show.

Oh my goodness...you guys make me laugh...the AARP comment and then the ordeal with the apples...CRACKED me up! I would love to start doing these but I just can't make myself drink it. I guess I'm not a veggie girl.

I love the Trader Joe's brand of frozen mangos in mine. The banana makes it smooth and creamy. I don't add protein powder or flax. You might try flax oil so you don't get the gelling effect. I use water as the base. As I said, it's important to rotate your greens! I rotate: parsley, spinich, chard, kale, cilantro, romaine, and mixed greens. My green drink lady says any greens can be used, including carrot tops... which I haven't tried yet. Also, she says to use as little fruit as you can. Just enough to make it taste good to you. It's not supposed to be a "fruit drink". It's a GREEN drink! She says fruit and leafy greens go very well together, as far as digestion is concerned. She claims it helps people cure just about whatever ails them. The jury's out on that one. I find that it staves off my appetite very nicely, feels good in my stomach, and it's so great for hot summer days when I don't feel like cooking! We'll see if it actually cures what ails me!

This was very entertaining as well as informative. We may do some experimenting in our home. Your dad is a fruit smoothie guy--I have some protein powder and will buy some spinach so he can become a green smoothie man. I have yet to venture into this realm. (Used to in the olden days, but it's been years.) Dennis, you're a natural. Thanks Jill for your "unbiased" commentary! Love, Dad and Susan

We are hit and miss with the smoothies, but love our Blendtec! We have an awesome Farmers Market in Logan during the summers which makes it a little easier and the super fresh veggies are awesome. Den, Next time you're out we'll make you a bologna sandwich and kale smoothie (with half an apple)...

A nice blender makes a huge difference. Our cheapo blender doesn't make it smooth enough and I don't think it could handle flax seeds. Do you use plain soymilk or the vanilla kind? And have you tried yogurt in it? I have been doing that lately so I don't have to add very much fruit. Is there a place locally that sells that protein powder?

Carly~ Dennis uses the plain soy milk but you can use any kind you like. I use rice milk in mine.

We bought that protein powder at a health food store in Bakersfield so I would think most health food stores would carry it?...not sure. We like it but there are probably cheaper ones that are just as good.

We've never tried yogurt but I know many who have. Do your kids drink the smoothies you make? Do they like them? I wish I knew about these in my pregnant/nursing days...they would have been such a great way to get quick nutrition during all those sleep deprived years.

This was SO MUCH FUN to watch! Dad cracks me up. And Jill, your comments as well were hilarious! (especially about cutting the apples on the counter!) I'm with you Jill on that one! ;) So happy to see dad on video. What a great start to my day!

we are making the green smoothies daily as well. It is fun to see how different people make them. We always add KALE to ours as well as the spinach and swiss chard. So good for you!

I tried one of these this morning! It was pretty good. My ktec blender was perfect, I can't believe I drank Kale, chard and spinach, but mixed with the berries, plum and banana it was fine. Your video was really entertaining...loved the fun mix!
