Our weekend

Our trip to Arcadia was uneventful except for....

A tour bus caught on fire ahead of us.
I felt bad driving right by the large group of tourists to the side of the road, but at least they were safe.

It was worth going through fire (okay, smoke)
to see Den's mom and her sister Marge

Den's mom has lived here for several years now...

And she always seemed okay here,
but this visit we realized that she is ESPECIALLY HAPPY.
Her sister Marge not only lives in the SAME FACILITY, right down the hall, but also their HIGH SCHOOL FRIEND!
Can you imagine how fun it would be to be with a high school friend all those years later?

Aunt Marge's room and Den's mom's room.
Wish I could have thought to get a picture of the high school friend's room.

They showed us around like they live in a high class resort.
It was so wonderful knowing the 2 sisters are together.
They act like they are having the time of their lives!

And just 4 blocks from our hotel.....
(no complaints this time btw)

was this famous high school that has been in many movies over the years

This trip did our hearts good. If our children are happy, and our parents are happy, then so are we.

PS  If in the future I ever move into a facility I hope Dennis goes with me. If not, then I love the idea of one of my sisters there. But a high school friend? Sounds good, but more I think of it, I'm not so sure. Is it just me, or do you think it's a little bizarre to mix those 2 worlds?

it's hard to believe that this will be my future in a short while. i love the idea of finishing up with a loved one down the hall. but, it's hard to imagine all of my present belongings reduced to a small space. xox

Those retirement centers are so nice and cozy. I'm sure Dennis' mom and aunt loves it there. Craig's aunt lived in one and she loved it! I'm with you, if I lived in one of the centers I'd definitely want Craig with me, or one of my sisters. Okay, so can you name a couple of movies that Monrovia High School has been in. It looks very familiar but I can't remember which movie I've seen it in. Btw...I took some of the PBOCC cookies to our study group last night and they all LOVED them!!! I think I will try the white chocolate chips next time.

What a newsy post! Thanks for sharing. Dennis's mom is very fortunate on several levels. How wonderful to be in such a nice place, but even more so with her sister. When I read the high school friend was there too, I couldn't relate--my most memorable friends were not from HS, but college. But if they're both close to the HS friend, then good for all of them. Love, Dad and Susan

How wonderful that she (and her sister and friend) are so well situated! That must bring you so much peace and joy.

Sue tells me that if I Dick dies firts, I will definitely be living with her so I probably won't be going into a retirement center but if I did, since all of my siblings have died, I would want as many of my friends to be with me as possible. She also said that if I die first that Dick could come and live with them. Dick is her stepfather too. Isn't she just the best!!

Ed's mom is adjusting to her new apartment in the senior citizen center we moved her to last month, after 20 years in the big house where she lived with Ed's dad until he passed away in 2009. Nice apartment, nice neighbors, great manager. It's so good to have her 10 minutes away instead of 12 hours. A great relief for Ed!

Mary~ That is so good you found her a place near you. I know you were making many trips back and forth out of state to see her. This will be SO much better. I hope you do a post on her new home.

I'll have to hear if you got to see the cute little downtown area of Monrovia. When I see that school I think of Ferris Bueller's Day Off & Fastimes at Ridgemont High (only I never seen that movie! LOl ) I'm just guessing for the first commentor.

I've gotten a real big interest in these retirement homes & their rooms are so nicely decorated! Wish you'd invite me to go next time you visit here locally. You guys are the BEST!

Look what happened last night

Just a little pre-graduating gathering for our DIL Amy.... Not everyday a Mom of 7 and a Grandma of 7, graduates from college. It was not ...
