Could it be the Green Smoothies??

Dennis went to see his Dr today for a routine blood pressure check. He has struggled with high blood pressure for years, and has been on medication for the past 8 years.

So before he actually sees the Dr, the nurse weighs him in and takes his blood pressure and temp....all routine.

The medical assistant then asks, "What are you here for today?"

Den responds, "Blood pressure check."

The assistant looks at his BP reading, and then at Dennis, and asks him, "Is it too low, or too high?"

"Too high," he says.

What the assistant said next put a smile on my husband's face, "Wow! Your blood pressure is really great today....104 over 71. She reminded him that normal BP is 120 over 80.

Good news. Especially considering he took it upon himself to cut his dose of blood pressure medicine in half nearly a week ago! Once the Dr came in, Den explained that to her, and she said to continue at this lower dose because he is doing so well. She also said if he continues doing so well he should consider stopping the blood pressure meds all together. Yah!!!

The only thing that has really changed in his life are the Green Smoothies. He has been making one daily since our trip to Bakersfield 5 weeks ago. He even made them for me those 2 weeks I couldn't cook.

The Green Smoothie Girl warned us that this could happen. Apparently she is right. Time will tell.

Dennis' father died of diabetes/heart disease/high blood pressure problems at age 62...the same age Den is now.

Hi Grandma Honey. Thanks for your comment on my article over at Power of Moms. ;-)
We drink green smoothies too. In fact, we have the 12 Steps to Whole Foods and loved it (GSG is a little too vegan for us, and I've found that I like "healthifying" my own recipes better, but there is a lot of good information and some great recipes in there.). Congrats to your hubby...that is wonderful news!
How many children do you have? It looks like you have a darling family!

Dad knows a guy who started drinking daily green smoothies when he was 43. He would have been 56 next week...

Great! I do believe in the Green Smoothies! We have been having one every single day for the past 3 weeks. I love the results here!!! I kind of want to go to another of her lectures now that I know more about it.

What's in those green smoothies?

Kathy--- Dennis makes his differently than the way I do mine. I will try to take a video of him...so you can see just how he does his.

Scrapally_- That's what I use to think too! But once we got use to green smoothies we crave them.

did you get one of those high powered mixers? I'm not sure my mixer could mix all that stuff. Interesting... How do you do smaller quantities? And how much do you drink at one time?

I've heard Den also cut out a lot of sugar and refined carbs from his diet. There is a lot of evidence out now that links "diseases of civilization" like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. to high levels of sugar and refined carbs.

Look what happened last night
