My favorite conference talk

I loved it all.  But if I had to choose one, it would be by Mervyn B. Arnold, during the afternoon session today.

He told about how, growing up, their family of 9 grew up in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home, with an enclosed porch where his sisters slept. When his parents passed away, he along with all his siblings got together to divide their parents' possessions.  His mother left a few dresses, some used furniture, and a few personal items.  His Dad had only some carpenter tools, some old hunting rifles and little else left.  The only things of any monetary value were a modest home and a small savings account.

Together he and his siblings openly wept, giving thanks, knowing, their parents had left them something much more precious than money.  They had given their children their LOVE and their TIME. Their parents taught them not so much by their words, but by their example. And they left them precious journals about their lives and beliefs.

We had lots of family time today, too.  Before, during and after conference.

After conference was all over, we sure had a house full of sleepy heads.

That was my husband's favorite talk, too, and one of mine.

What a wonderful message.

I enjoyed his talk a lot but then I enjoyed all of the talks. It's hard to pinpoint a favorite one. I love the pictures of all the sleepy heads :-) Thanks for sharing!

That was a very sweet talk. I wonder if his parents just recently passed away. It still seemed very hard for him to talk about.

I love the pictures of all the sleeping people. Looks like fun to me.

Elder Lawrence, Sunday pm, was the first San Joaquin Valleyite to ever speak at General Conference! He was known when serving as Stake President in the Fresno North Stake for his pragmatic counsel and was true to form yesterday! His talk was entitled, "Courageous Parenting." It was his first and likely only opportunity to speak at Conference during the 6-8 years he will likely serve. Likewise, Elders Uceda, Mazzgaradi, Malm, and the Englishman who spoke at Priesthood session...it is very interesting to me to see what they choose to say at Conference after a lifetime of service and knowing this is likely their only opportunity...

Why hasn't my last post been approved yet? Are you asleep?
BTW, we had your kids over for Conference yesterday and they were perfect little angels...they didn't complain or clamor when I dozed off in the middle of the pm session.

Richard~ Sorry I had to go to Vons to get some bananas.

Elder Lawrence was excellent. But there was nothing new or surprising to me. It was like listening to the parenting tapes I have had in my head for years. But I'm thankful he vocalized them.

Oh, and THANK YOU RICHARD for having my kids over yesterday. I know they were excited about coming, but I have not heard from them since. I am calling them tonight to get details.
