Tyler got published in the Ensign!

My youngest son, Tyler, has an article in April's Ensign.

It's on Page 20

Of course being his mom and all I like what he wrote.  But really, I DO like what he wrote.
How do you like it?
It's okay, you can disagree.

I like how he explains that it took him a year to get his complete answer.  Love the filling the glass analogy.  I've always encouraged my boys to know a girl a year before marrying her.  They say it takes 6-8 months for a person to start really being themselves.  It's just human nature.

Oh, and The Ensign is our monthly church publication.  I have been reading it every month since I was a little girl.  Even back in the days when it was called The Era.
I have never known personally anyone who had an article in it, until now. :)

Congratulations to Tyler and I know that Karen and you must be so proud of him! It's a very good article and he is very articulate. I hope all of the young singles that are hesitant to marry will read this. We all need to do as he said and have faith and let the Lord guide us. Thanks for sharing!

What a tremendously thoughtful and spiritual Young Man, and a good example as well. If he isn't already, I hope he has the opportunity to work amongst youth in the church and share his wonderful testimony of some of knowledge he has gained through righteously following what he has been taught and learned through the years! That is what our youth need!

I haven't received my copy yet! I love reading the Ensign every month...will look forward to his article. I know an artist that gets his drawings put in there occasionally...but never known an author! :)

Well that is so COOL. I'm a little jealous...how can I be jealous, I've never tried, but somehow I am.

Thanks for stopping by sewmanybooks.blogspot.com. I can't wait to hear more from you...and I can't wait to discuss this article with my single baby brother. :)

I think it's a great article, and I'm going to have my unmarried son read it. He has a lot of fear around being "sure" and worries about dating someone so long to try to be sure that he ends up hurting her in the end by breaking things off. (This has happened before.) But sometimes you just have to take the risk and date someone even if you think they just "might be" the right one. As long as you are honest about your feelings as you go, I think the other person can decide whether or not they are willing to take a chance on you.

Anyway, you must be a proud mom! Great job, Tyler.

=)

PS. I bet my husband will like sharing this with the young adults in his singles ward, too. Thanks!

Way to go Tyler...now you're really committed! :)

Why did you black out Tyler's name on the posted article? Are you protecting his identity? I think most of us who read this blog will figure it out...

Tyler is the second person I've known to have an article in the Ensign. Remember my cousin Dianne Hawkins (who changed her name to Raelene)? Her step-daughter Jenna had an article published a couple of years ago.

Having had articles rejected twice myself, I know it's a real accomplishment!

That is so wonderful. Congratulations. I will save my copy and have him sign it someday. How could he have worried about Karen? I mean, after all, with a name like that, she had to be good. (HA HA)

Tyler sounds very mature for his age. I've always said that if you think about it too much, you'll never get married! Same goes for having kids. But that is a fear-based way of life, and we are to be guided by faith and trust, not by fear. Besides, the pros are so much greater than the cons. Our lives are meant to be shared!

It took Tyler one year to figure out that Karen was the one for him. It took me only 4 days to know that I was supposed to marry Amy. To clarify; I am simply better and faster at getting answers to life's great questions. We all can't be great at everything. Its ok though because Tyler is good at other things, like writing.

Natalie...please tell me the name of your mom's article, and what issue it was in. I want to read it! I just love your Mom. She is so smart about life.

Man....I LOVE YOU BOYS. I don't even know them especially Logan, but how I've come to LOVE them through this blog.

My eyes are welled up. Tyler's writing is from the heart and I think important for those who aren't able to get answers quickly like say...Logan. :D Seriously, people are all so different and we all get our inspiration & confirmations in different ways. For instance, how many people felt like getting a testimony of the BoM would come after one prayer? For some it did, but for others it was like Tyler's journey in this article.

The glass metaphor was brilliant and really, when people approach things like Tyler does, hand in hand with the Lord...there's only one outcome. The Lord's continual blessing on your head.

EXCELLENT!!!

Tyler is certainly a good man. Very mature and very smart. Because of my situation, my family was a little hesitant to watch another 20 year old daughter/sister/granddaughter/niece get married so young, especially when she was changing so many plans she had in place for herself since childhood. But it has been clear over this past year what a good man Tyler is. I truly appreciate how much he does for Karen and how he lets her be herself. I love how wise and happy she is and I know part of that comes from a healthy and happy marriage. I don't think it matters how long it took Tyler to fill his glass, I just think it matters that he did it the right way. He knows he needs to trust his Heavenly Father, and with an attitude like that, I know Tyler will go far.

We are very proud of Tyler. It is no surprise that he would have something like this published in the Ensign. He's been preparing for it all his life.

So awesome! It's a great article. And it's a great real-life example how we sometimes have to be patient for answers. Your family is getting more and more famous. :)

It is kind of Natalie to remember nice things about her mother that never happened. Wendy and I can't remember her being published...not that it couldn't have happened. Nat probably thinks I could beat up Dennis, too. I couldn't. He carries a gun.

Well maybe Richard, that's because it's a different Natalie :)
