The Mcs both have it

Last night I was going through papers in the closet, no less, and Den walks in with the phone. Right before handing it over to me I heard him say quietly into the phone,
"Okay, now listen for your Mom."

Then Den says to me, "McKay has swine flu!"

"What??! Are you kidding? Hand me the phone!"

McKay said both he and McKenna have H1N1. They have both been to the health center. She opted for Tamiflu, he didn't.

He said they are together every day recovering. What a date that must feel like. Two sickies on opposite ends of the couch.

Den and I, on the other hand, took Cami to the Pumpkin Patch yesterday. Once she saw him she did not want to let go. She insisted he carry her and when he put her down at the Patch, she would not let go of his hand.
Twice when I asked her how she was doing she said, "I'm fine."
The other 12 times (aprox) I asked her, she ignored me.
I think I was being a pest.
So have you had H1N1? I'd really like to know. And if so, were you very sick with it?
So odd having all this flu in October...

If you would like to read one woman's natural ideas on how to avoid H1N1 go HERE.

I don't know if what we had was H1N1 but I have never been so sick, so long. All of us except John has been sick with fever, aches, sore throat, headaches and ear aches. We went to the dr and they didn't say that we had it, BUT she put us all on antibiotics so we wouldn't get pneumonia, as we all have awful coughs now. I had heard someone say that here in the San Luis Valley (in Colorado), they are only telling people it is a virus because they don't want to say we have a pandemic because of the cost...whatever. I think me and the girls had it. I hope that is what it was so maybe we can be ammune to it. Such a weird little community we live in.

My boys were sick with "classic" H1N1 symptoms last week. I spoke to their pediatrician on the first day and recommended that I not bring them in unless they were really not doing well. So we had fevers that were controlled with Tylenol and Motrin for 3 days, cough, body aches, and feeling nauseous but all in all they weren't too bad. They were up and playing every so often and now seem to be recovered. My youngest does have a lingering cough but otherwise we are doing well. Our pediatrician said they likely had it but didn't think it was worth testing them because KNOWING wouldn't change the way we would treat it given their medical history....

TMI?

I hope you stay healthy!

I haven't had it(I don't think) but I had something this summer when I came back from the Alaskan Cruise. I called the dr. but never went in. Some kids at school have had it.

What a fun day you had with Cami. She is so sweet.

I've heard at Kaiser they are just calling any flu now, "H1N1" because that is what is going around now...the other flus are not expected until Dec or so.

We're in the beginning of the flu season here and I think quite a few people have had the H1N1 but the doctors aren't saying it that is what it is. How fun for Cami to go to the pumpkin patch!. I'm sure you guys all had fun doing that. I hope the Mc's are on the mend as well as Amy.

Loved the pumpkin patch pictures. So sad to hear about the family members with the H1N1 virus. How did Amy manage that with 7 kids? Think of how sick you feel and then having to take care of other people--that is a real trial. Love, Dad and Susan

ALL of the deacons in our ward had it except for Adler Dunning. So far the primary has been able to avoid it. I'm sure that won't last forever. It's a new strain of the flu that few people have had... My bro in law (Dr. Gage) says pretty much everybody is going to get it...whether it's with the vaccine or getting the full blown H1N1...we'll all get it because we haven't built up the immunities for it yet.

Grandma Honey said...

Everybody will get it huh? Well that is not good news :(( I wonder why all those Primary children have not come down with it yet. You would think they would have it first. Is it in the elementary schools much?

Our schools were hit hard with H1N1early in Sept. It seems to be lightening up finally. All 3 of my own children had it, but their bodies fought it off well without any drugs. That's been the case for most people who are otherwise healthy: just drink plenty of fluids, rest a lot, and stay down a few days more when you start to feel better. Most of the cases that have turned bad have been when the person tries to go back to work/school right away and then they relapse with worse symptoms that are harder to fight.

As for me, I'm one of the old people who apparently was exposed to the original swine flu in the '70s, because despite being exposed by my kids and dozens of sick, coughing, feverish high school students, I'm still healthy as a horse!

Love the car! I commend you and Dennis on the fine choice you have made. Us Mc's are looking forward to driving in style. Thanks so much for doing that. And yes, the swine flu really stinks. I suggest to everyone that you don't catch it.

Hey McKay, glad to see you feel well enough to post at least. Read what my friend Mary said about your comment...about staying down a few extra days after you are feeling better. She works in a high school so she should know.

In my opinion, it's best to get it and develop an immunity. In the meantime, boost your immune sytems with good diet and exercise and lots of water and good attitude. That's what I'm doing anyway. I may be too old to get it, though. They say over-60s are likely to be immune due to the swine flu strains that they survived in the past.

Is it sad that I really can't wait to tell my grandkids that I survived Swine '09? (I mean, assuming nothing goes drastically wrong.)

Around here, we are expecting that 1/3rd of BYU students will come down with H1N1. And the University has sent several emails informing the students that if they have the flu, or flu-like systems, they are not to go to class.

From what I've heard, it seems that all of the professors are being really helpful about all of this.

Also, that Cami just gets more adorable everyday. I can't wait to see her at Christmas.

The swine flu is making it's way around my family in Utah. They have been pretty miserable, but it passes after 3-4 days. Rodney also heard that they are calling any flu right now the swine flu.

Also, which pumpkin patch did you take Cami to?

Logan and Amy said...

Lets get something straight. If you haven't had a lab swab to test for h1n1 then you can't say that you have it. AMY DOES NOT HAVE H1N1 so you need you need to retract that statement. Your blog is unfortunate (albeit unintentional) exacerbation of media/government propaganda. We have (and have had) several women at the prison that are under H1N1 quarantine precautions, all have been tested and none have had H1N1.

At Bryon's school there have been a lot of kids with H1N1. The school doesn't notify you if someone has had it. The kids I know that have had it all are fine, they just had to stay home for five days (I think it was 5)or longer if they aren't well. I'm sick now, not sure if it's swine I didn't want to get out of bed to go to the school health center. I'm only really worried about donald because when he gets something he gets it bad. I hope everyone feels better. That pumpkin patch looks like lots of fun and cami sure is cute.

Boy, that swine flu really seems to be getting around. I'm not sure if any of my family has had it or not. My grandchildren were very sick with fevers, aches and coughs last week but they are doing fine now. I don't think they went to the doctor because it sort of ran a natural course. They did miss several days of school, though.

My son works in a hospital in AZ and I am worried about him. He's so busy with his pre-med studies that he "hasn't had time" for the flu shots hospital workers are supposed to get. He is pretty asthmatic, so I worry most about him.

My daughter works in a doctor's office, so she has been vaccinated.

Thank you my dear Logan...but if you will go back and read what I wrote...I said she was diagnosed with H1N1. It might not be a correct diagnosis but that's what her dr said. Who knows really who has it and who doesn't. I know this one family in Utah....they were actually tested for it and the mom thought they just had viruses because each child had sort of different symptoms...one was only sick a day...but after they were all well the tests all came back positive for H1N1. Only one child was really sick. I agree though, we can never be sure what the media is telling us. Very interesting about the quarantine at the prison when no one actually has it.
But I will take that sentence out Logan. I'm sorry.

Amy, that Pumpkin Patch is on the corner of Alluvial and Nees. My oral surgeon took his kids to it last weekend and he was just raving about it to me on Monday so we decided to take Cami. We were not that impressed but then it was a weekday morning and much of it was closed down that day. My OS probably went there when everything was in full operation. They have a website, well sort of, it's:
www.thepatchonline.com
They had this cute little train that I wanted to go on with Cami but Dennis didn't like the looks of the guy running it, so we didn't do any rides...just walked around and looked.

Oh so awful! Hope they are feeling well soon! We have not had it in our family yet, but a lot of kids at the schools have. Yuck.

I'm very grateful to not have been sick, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My brother in-law and his wife have both had it this past week and survived. Hallelujah! I'm going to read the tips at the end of your post.

Please tell Logan that Wendy caught H1N1 just from reading about it in the paper. It kept her home from Church today, but she expects to be recovered enough by tomorrow to resume normal activities.

none for our family yet, no sickness to speak of. This is actually the first year that my kids haven't missed a single day OR been late to school. I realize we're only a few months into school but I hope to keep the record going.
