My review of dishwasher detergent

I have a winner.
I will get to that at the end.
For now, this is my story....

For years I used this:
For years this was the best anyone could do. As we shook the powder into the little dispenser it would sometimes fly elsewhere...like on the kitchen floor.

Then my daughter in law Erin, introduced me to these little guys:

My life had changed. How convenient. Once I used these I was spoiled. Just pop them into the dispenser. No powder getting on anything.

And the dishes were so clean!

Problem is, I noticed that when I would fill a glass with water there would be little tiny bubbles in it. So the residue of the soap from these little guys was not completely gone. Every time we would drink water, we would also ingest some of this detergent.

So, I started rinsing out my glasses before I put water in them.

I worried about toxins. So that's when I started using this stuff.
Seventh GenerationThe dishes just did not come out as clean.
So I went back to these guys:
And the winner is:

BTW, ignore how it says they are coming soon. They are at Target.

Love this! The dishes come out very clean and no residue. The ingredients claim to be non toxic. No phosphates. No bleach. Biodegradable formula.

And once I have used all the tablets inside, the labels easily come off and I'm left with these cute white and pink containers. Not sure what I will do with them, if anything, but I'm thinking...

Do you have a favorite dishwasher detergent?

Oh...Thank You ThankYou for the heads up on Dishwasher cleaning!

Ideas for containers:

Piggy Bank/Coin Jar for kids - save for something cool or Amy's POINTS in a tub.

If I were you & now that you're in YW. Collect enough of these & they'll be good for some activity of decorating and thoughtful "something" in a jar for people like those your VISIT! Hahaha.

Oh... I'm sure you'll get lots more ideas!

I wish I could vote but we don't use ouar dishwasher. I think Tom has something against it. We wash by hand. But if I did, I would use the packets. They seem great. I am not sure what to do with those containers, but I am sure Kris or Kim would know.

Very interesting observations Jill. I've never seeen that smarty dish detergent before- I'll have to keep my eye out for it.

Karen, you're so funny. Hmmm...let's see. Immediately my mind goes to "Lego Container", but you know, that's what happens when you have a 6-year-old boy running around. :) Those have to be some of the cutest little containers though. Perfect for so many little items. They'd make great little containers for car rides, too with the kids. I would be so excited to get those 20 loads done! LOL!

**Sigh** If only I had a dishwasher. We've lived without one in this house for 16 years. My dishwashers are named Sarah, Jacob, and Dylan!

Oh Mary, I don't know how you do it. However, And I know this is easy for me to say, but really, your kids will be all the better for it. You're such a good mom.

I too used seventh gereration but it really doesn't work, so I'm going back to Cascade liquid, that's my favorite. I'm tempted, however, to try the last ones on your list. In fact, I need to go get some tonite.

I know what you mean, Cascade does really clean well. But I am trying to go greener around here if I possibly can. And I really do wonder if we are drinking a little Cascade. since the water has tiny bubbles in it after I wash with it.

I use Kirkland powder detergent from Costco. Not "green" but it works just as good as Cascade and it's a lot cheaper. I've never had any residue left on the dishes after using it.

I don't use cascade, but I use the other tablets that have the little ball of jet dry in them. I could go and look, but I'm not going to! I love them though, no problems with residue either. They last so much longer than liquid or powder too.

Look what happened last night
