A little Amy FYI

My daughter in law Amy saw her OB doctor yesterday.
She is dilated to 1 1/2, and is 50% effaced.
This is not the best news being she is only 31 weeks pregnant.

Also, the doctor is not sure, but they are thinking the girl baby is not head down anymore. Another ultrasound will be done next Tuesday, and we will know more then.

Meanwhile, Amy has been put on meds every 6 hours round the clock.
8am, 2pm, 8pm, 2am.
She has not been put on bedrest exactly, but she is suppose to slow down and rest more, and has a list of activities that are history at this point. Such as vacuuming.

The goal now is to get her to 35 weeks.
We are praying those babies can stay in there for 4 more weeks!

As a childbirth teacher, my advice is: Make sure Amy is getting a minimum of 80-100 grams of protein a day. That may help stave off labor, and it will definitely help the babies GROW! Also, her diet should be impeccable. Very well-balanced. Eating well in pregnancy is one of the few things, other than prayer, that we can do to help our babies stay put until they are mature enough to thrive outside the womb.

I wish I had wonderful advice as does Darlene. We will most definitely keep Amy in our prayers. Thanks for the update. Love, Dad and Susan

Thank you for all the comments and thank you for the advice Darlene. If anyone should know this, you should Darlene, with all your involvement with pregnant and nursing moms. Perhaps I should get Amy some more protein to snack on. I think the big secret to Kate Gosslin carrying those 6 babies for as long as she did was her food intake.

Good Luck trying to keep ACTIVE & HEALTHY GIRLS (mom & baby) on the slow side. I'll put Amy & her twins on the Temple Rolls tomorrow, ok?

By the way, a friend of mine with twins was 50% effaced for several weeks before her labor started. She believes her high protein diet definitely helped! It's not surprising that the weight and mass of two babies pressing against the cervix might naturally thin it out some, especially since she's already been pregnant a few times. There is a case to be made that this early thinning and dilating simply predicts a quick and "easy" labor. That's definitely a plus! Just have Amy and Logan "talk" to the babies every day, praising them for staying in there this long and telling them that they need them to stay put for at least another month so they can grow some more and be healthy.

Jill, what is wrong with vaccuuming while prego? I want the list...I'm trying to get this kid out of me...exact opposite!:) On a wierd twist, I have been sick for about a week and haven't been able to keep anything down, not even toast...just liquids. When I talked to the Dr at my appt the other day, he said I could go for the remainder of my pregnancy and not eat anything (not that I would do that or want to, just that I could) and as long as I was drinking liquids/electrolytes and staying really hydrated that the baby would be fine, continue to grow and stay in there. Hmmm...I wonder if the advice is different for twins...well, obviously it is. I have never heard that about protein. Vegetable are my tough thing right now, I just can't get them in, the smell is just so gross...so I have a good prenatal and I hope that keeps this baby well! Goodluck to Amy...just curious with her having kids before what the stats are for her keeping them in longer than shorter? Is it more likely because she's had kids before that she will go early? Hmmm, I love learning all this pregnancy info, it's so much fun to learn about everyone's experiences, they are all so different! ;)

Excellent words of wisdom from Darlene. I especially love the part about talking directly to the wee ones. I will keep them in my prayers.
