My Headache Remedy

I don't get headaches very often, but when I do, Peppermint Oil is my favorite remedy. I spread it across the top part of my forehead, and then I add more where it hurts. I just make sure not to get it too close to my eyes or they will water and burn, but even that is temporary.

It is so soothing.

It takes about 20-30 minutes after I apply it for the headache to go away, but it does work for me. I've read that it opens up the blood vessels. Whatever, I love it.

Last night we were out with our friends Bev and Brent, and while we had a fun time together (we always do) I had to resort to Tylenol because I didn't want to smell like toothpaste. But at 4am when the pain returned I put my peppermint oil on and less than 30 min later the headache was totally gone. And Dennis lying next to me says it opens up his sinuses.

I originally found this cure years ago in the book, "Miracle Cures" by Jean Carper.

Oh, Jill, again, we are so alike! I love this for headaches. As with you I almost never get them, but if I do, I do the same. But one thing I want to add. I take a washcloth, get it as hot as I can stand, and put the peppermint on that, then put it on my forehead. It makes a kind of "peppermint steam", and makes the headache go right away.

Hey Jill, that sounds great. I like your friends idea of the hot washcloth with the peppermint on it. That would be good even if you didn't have a headache. Anyway, what does it say for menopause or weakness from lack of iron?

That is some remedy! I have to admit I was giggling over this post-sometimes...you make me laugh because you're such a unique woman. I love you and your "interesting" ways. I'm an ADVIL girl. One tablet and my headache is gone within minutes. Sometimes I wonder if it's psychological because how can anything work that fast? What did you decide to utilize in your fist to fat lip / sore teeth remedy? I need to look at ALL the comments I'm sure you got. That was a DOOZY!! Glad to hear you guys went out with B & B!

Drugs and me have never been a match. I do just about anything to avoid them. Even that Tylenol I took last night...I felt when I woke up with a headache at 4am it was rebound from the Tylenol. So I did my Peppermint thing and I have been fine ever since.

I'd rather suffer the headache than take a pain pill. Who needs those side effects? Luckily headaches are rare for me, too. For tension headaches another good remedy is lavender oil, which relaxes all those tight muscles in the neck and around the face just by inhaling the scent. Essential oils are amazing!

I think just like you do Mary. Seems I always have to pay a price for drugs in the way of side affects.

ERIN...You can get it at any health food store. Dennis works not too far from one, so I'll have him pick some up for you this week. :)

Hi, thanks for the tip. Also, I'm on the missionary mom e-mail group and I don't have your blog on my blogroll, so I didn't see your post about Jon and Kate + 8. Do you still have that extra book? My daughter would love that. I could give it to her for Christmas.
= ) Click on my name, and you can go to my blog. Joneel

Do more of these posts Jill. That is fantastic to know. I have been a big believer of these types of things too. If my childs ear ever ached, it was garlic and goldenseal oil. They never had an antibiotic for an ear infection. Thanks for this tip.
