Our Conference Tradition

Today was our semi annual LDS General Conference broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah directly to our TV at home:

It's our family tradition that started from the time when my sons were very small. We have a special breakfast while watching the first session from 9-11am. We then watch the next session from 1-3pm while snacking on apples, nuts, and crackers. Afterwards we help put a nice dinner together. Erin made me a darling birthday cake arrangement. Thank you Erin!! I loved it!

I love the day, as chaotic and wonderful as it is, and now with grandchildren to also keep us entertained. It's too bad all of our children and grandchildren couldn't be with us today.

My 2 beautiful daughters in law, Erin and Amy

Elora was taking such good care of her babies in the playroom:

Then she decided to make her parents a meal, along with her sister Campbell and Aunt Amy and Uncle Logan:

I feel we have all been so uplifted spiritually. I am anxious to read all the talks when they come out in print next month. I want to quote a part from Elder Russell M. Ballard's talk that particularly touched my heart:

"Author Anna Quinlan reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments. She said, "The biggest mistake I made as a parent is the one that most of us make. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone captured only in photographs. There's one picture of my 3 children sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day. Ages 6, 4, and 1. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting done a little less."

You did a great job with your blog. I love the pictures. You kept it short and sweet. I hope I didn't look to bored in our retake pictures, ha ha. Keep up the great work. And thank you for letting us come over today and for the wonderful breakfast and dinner. I love being in your family.

Amy and Brock, you both left me comments!! Thank you! Made my day and it is not even 9am yet. We had a great time yesterday! And no Amy you did not look too bored in the retake picture. Ha! I don't think you will ever let me forget that I said you looked bored in the first pictures we took! And we love having you in the family! You are part of us for sure.
Love, Mom

Cool stuff, Mom. Those are some good pics. I remember hearing that quote from Elder Ballard and thinking, "Good point." That whole talk was much needed, I think. My roommate was smiling throughout his talk because he agreed entirely with the things he had to say about motherhood.

And I don't know if you're aware, but there is a way to publish your blog and have it bound in a book for you to keep. Karen's aunt does it--she has the blogging company publish it so that she can keep it as a sort of journal.

That is one of the reasons I am doing this Tyler...so I can hopefully put it in a book to keep. This is sort of like scrapbooking online. Thank you for reading my blog and for your comments! I love that you did.
